When I bought my 22 WL74 Overland with the 10.1" UConnect 5 i tried to hook up wireless android auto. it was very unreliable and never worked for more than 30 min or so then wouldn't work again until I unpaired the phone and reinstalled android auto. It would work again for a while. I noticed the DIRECT-34-AndroidAP come up as a wifi signal available for my phone to connect to. DIRECT-34-AndroidAP is the direct link for android auto to hook up through wifi to the jeep. I set up the free ATT wifi and the Direct-34-androidap disappeared. Well after my free Att trial ran out the Direct-34-android ap started showing up again. But it was taking like 10 min for it to relink up on my phone. It tries to link up but fails for 10 min or so. Now the Direct-34- doesn't even show up anymore. Android auto dose not work wirelessly but does fine hooked up to usb. Anyone have problems with wireless android auto? did you fix it?

Wireless Android Auto and CarPlay both use a private, low power WiFI connection for control and media once the connection is setup via BT and then handed off. That's why you see the network you have identified when trying to use the solution. Some folks have had issues with wireless connections...while wired works perfectly fine. I'm not an Android user, but understand that there are some setups that have to be made in the device. Sometimes resetting them helps based on things I've read.

Only issue we had was getting all of the permission prompts resolved. I think it takes 3 separate connection attempts to clear them all. Then for a year now, I get in, lay my phone on the wireless charger, start the Jeep, and it connects every time.

Only suggestion I would have is to remove all connections from the phone to the Jeep (Bluetooth pairings...)
remove it from Android Auto permission, remove it from being paired in the Jeep, reboot phone and start over from scratch, and don't even attempt wireless until it is working wired, and bluetooth for calls is paired.

I too have an unstable android auto wireless connection. I don’t think I ever got even 30 min before it would disconnect. I’ve tried the steps outlined by Pioneer4x4 with no luck. In fact, if I had wireless android auto enabled on my phone I would lose connection while plugged in! Once I disabled wireless connection within android auto my wired connection was stable. Well…I still have the whole head unit lock up with loud static and then reboot a few times a month.

I’ve had my car 6 months and I decided to switch to an iPhone and see if that would help. It is marginally better. It still disconnects, but now it reconnects within a few seconds whereas AA would hang for 30+ seconds with a huge error message that covered the entire screen. One thing I like about the iPhone is that when I am navigating somewhere, it shows the turn notifications in the HUD and the display behind the steering wheel. So that’s a plus.

I’ll take it to the dealer soon to address this and some other issues. I have zero confidence that they will be able to fix it, but I suppose it’s worth a try.

I have a fully loaded overland WL 2 row and my phones are a Galaxy S20 and a iPhone 14 pro both fully updated.

Same issue with a 2022 Overland. Here's to hoping an update fixes it! 🍻

outstanding report 👍
There are multiple threads on here about this. Here is the one I've been on. WL Android auto not staying connected.
Of note, rarely connects wirelessly - have to use USB but that will sometimes cut out. However, the 22 Dodge Ram 1500 rental car I have connects EVERY TIME. It's very frustrating to be tied to a cable - dealership has "no idea".

I've tried S20, S22, Pixel 4a, Motorola Stylus, IPhone 12, IPhone 14 pro. All fully updated and all with phone factory cable. I've even factory reset phones installing no extra software and factory reset the Jeep system. Cannot get any to be stable either wirelessly or wired on 1+ hour drives especially. Each of those phones are rock solid on a 2018 Grand Cherokee, a 2021 Renegade, a 2019 F350. In addition, the iphones are perfectly stable wirelessly with a 2023 Mini Cooper.

This makes me believe it is an issue with the hardware/software in the 2022 WL74 Overland. Althought it is almost certainly a waste of time, I dropped it at the dealer to have them work on it. They were quick to say "a software update is coming". I assume this means they will do nothing, but we'll see.

I have a hard time thinking it's a software issue unless I somehow have a unicorn software version in my WL.
Mine works fine as well. It was acting quirky the other day when I first drove it after it sat for over a month. It connected and worked, but some message kept popping up, like the underlying OS or something. After the next drive cycle, it has been perfectly normal again. I assume my phone connected before the system was fully "awake" or something because I turned on the Jeep to check voltage, before I started it, since it sat for so long. (it was 12.5V)

I brought mine to a dealer I have never used for service and have been pleasantly surprised by their attention to detail and communication. I asked them to look at three things related to Uconnect, 1) unstable Carplay/AA connection, 2) system locks up with blank screen and loud static 1x/week, 3) factory Nav getting stuck on zoomed out view of globe 1x/month.

They said they found the bluetooth antenna was faulty and will install a new one next week. Fingers crossed that this fix happens and help with mine. Nothing on #2 or #3, but I wasn't surprised as it wasn't repeatable. I imagine either could be helped by the new antenna.

Keep in mind that Wireless AA and CP do not use Bluetooth other than for initial connection setup. From that point, it's all short range private WiFi. Hopefully replacing the BT antenna will solve your connection issue.

I thought the same thing so we will see. However in the video the tech sent he said that when he used their test phone it would disconnect as I described. He replaced the antenna with a known good antenna they keep in the shop for testing and his test phone stayed connected during a 20 minute test drive. When he switched back to my antenna the phone disconnected again.

I suppose a bad antenna could cause the phone to try to renegotiate a connection despite not needing to if it received a connection request from the car.

Here is an update on the unstable connection with CarPlay and Android auto (both wired and wireless).

My dealer has been great but the problem is not yet solved. I dropped it off on 10/25. They tried a test antenna and it seemed to fix it so they ordered a replacement antenna and installed it. It was slightly better but still disconnecting. Engineering worked with them and had them install a replacement harness that the antenna connects to. This made it worse. More work with engineering. They tried multiple combinations of antennas and harnesses on my jeep and others. Conclusion: needs a new uconnect unit likely due to faulty wiring within the uconnect unit.

I left it at the dealer a extra week hoping to get a new unconnect unit, but no luck. After 2.5 weeks I picked it up. Dealer can't even get an eta on the part they ordered. Looks like i'll be stuck with this situation indefinately.

Sorry this has been a bother, Itwasntmenosir! If you need assistance with expediting the part, feel free to message us your VIN, mileage, phone number, email, and servicing dealer. We can escalate a case on your behalf with the Jeep specialist team for you.

My uconnect saga continues.

My replacement uconnect unit arrived Monday. According to the dealer it initially worked well with no disconnects. However, they kept the car overnight to replace a faulty seat cover. Test driving it the next day they found the Bluetooth was completely nonfunctional! That is what I found as well. I can initiate pairing but every phone I tried immediately says unable to pair.

They ordered ANOTHER uconnect unit. I get to look forward to another month waiting for a part only this time I have no Bluetooth at all.
