I've had my JGC Overland for almost 2 weeks now. Unfortunately, the Jeep dealer (name purposely withheld!) failed to provide me a spare key fob. I've found a place (https://ikeyless.com/vehicles/Jeep/Grand+Cherokee/2011/1004135/) that offers fobs for $100. How much should the dealership charge to cut and program a new fob?
Be careful with buying from other sources.
I had to replace a key fod.
I bought one from ebay.
I took it to the dealer for programming and the dealer couldn't reprogram it.
Ended up buying from the dealer in the long run.
They did knock $50 off the price for me out of sympathy.
'zero...they cannot be "reprogrammed". Programming the fobs is a one-time deal which is why you want a pristine new one, regardless of source, when you need a replacement or an extra.
Is it possible the dealership will "claim" they can't program/reprogram a key fob from elsewhere just to get you to buy a new one from them? These people can be slimey at times!
Since the JGC has been purchased used, you can check with your local state requirements if you are suppose to be provided with 2 sets of keys under the used sales agreements or used car guarantee laws.
The dealer is most likely siting the as is clause. Which in their case makes them look like a idiot by not providing a quality consumer relationship over a couple of bills.
Just got my spare key fob from eBay....stupid question, can the dealership program AND cut the key or do I need to go Home Depot/Lowes to get it cut? View attachment 42987
I got my WK2 from a dealer, on delivery they couldn't find the key, they sent me a new one. I then took it to a second dealer and they programmed and cut it for $50. The original dealer then gave me $50. So the cost was $50 for the programming and cutting.
Key fob update:
Good news: Jeep dealer successfully programmed the fob! Bad news: it only works for locking/unlocking, remote start and power liftgate. It will NOT let me drive with it. The "keyless-go" feature does not work. The truck doesn't recognize the key is present so it won't fully start. Kinda sucks. Unless there's a way to override the system to make it recognize this new fob, i will probably need to get another one from the dealership ?
I am looking to buy a key fob online as well buy they all claim that they will not work with push button start. I am wondering if they would work if you insert and turn the fob.
Thanks.
