Airconditioning compressor switching

I see my airconditioning compressor clutch being activated now and then when the airco is switched to off. My Jeep has the automatic airco system, but i keep normally both fan and airdirection selectors in manual. Is it normal behaviour that the compressor is switched on in this case:confused:

Hi Michael,

Isn´t it so that when the airco switch light is off, that the compressor should not run at all? Last week when i was using the heater ( with the system in manual mode), i still saw the compressor switching, but the airco was switched to off.
Doesn´t look normal to me.

hi frank.
I know i does not seem normal, but it is how chrysler and jeep vehicles are made, it's something with safety and they want dry air on the front windshield, to avoid a foggy vindow, at least that's what I've been told. The only way to by-pass it is to disconnect the connector at A/C compressor.
Best regards
michael.

Hi Michael,

Ok, i will try this out tonight, because i´m not sure in which position the mode switch was. But your story sounds ok. Just using the airco for removing the water out of the air to prevent misting of the windshield.
I will check it out and let you know.
Thanks for the help.

Best regards x Frank.

Ok guys, thanks for the help. Checked it out and indeed the compressor only automatically kicks in when airflow is directed to the windshield or windshield/foot position and not in any of the other positions. Good to know its allright like this. :)
