Compare the weight of the two vehicles in addition to other factors...

My '14 Summit 5.7l replaced my '02 Limited 4.7HO with K&N CAI and the 4.7HO, also with Quadra Drive, was snappier and faster (0-60 ish) but my 5.7l would eat it a bit in the mid-range especially with my Corsa Cat-Back exhaust and Volant/Corsa CAI opening things up in the mid-range.

The '02 also had a much stiffer 3.73 rear end ratio compared to the Hemi's much taller 3.09
Thanks for focusing on the right thing....I knew I was forgetting my main point about my quicker 4.7HO...jeez...doing that made it sound like i thought the CAI was the reason and as you said, the gearing was the huge diff and that is truly what I meant to focus on... ;)

I loved our '02 Overland HO with its "chrome" exhaust tip. But no matter how easy I drove it, it just wouldn't get better than 18 mpg. Love the current V8 with almost 100 more HP and the ability to easily get over 20 mpg.

True but since my Summit Hemi is more "fun" with the Corsa I just cannot get over 12.5 mpg longterm avg for me (90% city). My wife, however, consistently averages 22-23 (90% highway)....:D

but the 8HP70 transmission has a much lower first gear ratio, so the overall 1st ratio is 14.55 with the 3.09 rear.. the 545RFE and 3.73 comes out to 11.19 by my math.

The '02 probably has smaller-diameter tires, which helps acceleration.. and the '02 is probably quite a bit lighter...

just MHO..

no she doesn't
I don't doubt my wife and you shouldn't either ;)

But seriously it is correct...I've hand verified the EVIC...she is the ultimate in steady Eddie driving and virtually all highway.....

I raced my dad's '03 4.7L against my '11 5.7L and the '11 stomped the '03 by about 1 1/2 lengths to 80MPH. Off the line the 4.7L was even but once you get up into the power band it is game over.
Now my brothers '98 5.9L was a different story. The '98 5.9L beat the '11 5.7L by about 1/2 car lengths to 80MPH. The 5.9L was brutal off the line and kept pulling. My '11 starting closing the gap at the very end but the race was over. We even raced on gravel and the 5.9L flat stomped the 5.7L.
I told my brother he cheated but deep down I know his jeep was faster.

Did your brother do anything to that 5.9L V8? To get it to compete with the 4.7 HO or Hemi, I would think he'd have to. I used to own a 5.9L V8 in a Ram truck, and the same weight (or slightly more) truck with the 5.7L Hemi would beat me handily, even after I did some minor upgrades.

As far as weight goes, the 2011+ models gained a bit with their size increase. All numbers below are rough, based on Edmunds and WK2Jeeps.

2011+: 4500 lbs to 5400 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.
The Hemi models will be between 4900 lbs and 5250 lbs, depending on options and 4WD or 2WD.

1999-2004: 3800 lbs to 4400 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.

1993-1998: 3600 lbs to 4300 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.

If you compare base model to base model, the 2011+ gained roughly 700 lbs, and top end to top end, roughly 1000 lbs.

car and driver 2014 overland 5.7 360hp 5324 lbs, 0-60 6.5 sec, 1/4 15.0 at 93 mph .76 g

motor week 02 overland 4.7 ho 265 hp 4000 lbs 0-60 6.7, 1/4 15.2 at 88 mph

motor trend 99 limited 4.7 235hp 4000 0-60 7.2 1/4 15.6 at 86 mph

98 5.9 limited 245 hp 0-60 6.8 1/4 15.2 at 88.7 mph

The 5.9L had so much torque. I think it was 345lbs-ft. It wasn't surprising the 4.7L was slower. 15hp more but ~30lbs-ft less torque with roughly the same weight when comparing the 4.7L to 5.9L.
The 4x4 in the 5.9L seemed to grab really well. Maybe that was the difference between the ram and the gc. The 5.9L were really fussy on gas too.
We lined up 3 times. Twice on pavement and once on gravel. Lost every time. Haven't heard the end of to this day. The 4.7L isn't slow by any means. Just a hair slower in my small sample size.

So for the Sunmit since it has specially exhaust tips do you just order the regular V8 system and have the tips fitted to that or how did you do it?
Any sound clips you could share?

Thats a shame, sorry to hear it. Its hard to find one of those in good shape, most of the ones I see are beat to smithereens.
You aren't looking in the right places my friend. There are plenty ex wives in great shape out there! :0
