Rehashing an old thread here, but same problem happened to me over the holidays.
Clicking noise could be heard from near the glove box (wife described it as having a box of hamsters hidden in the glove box)

Brought it to dealer today, took about 5 seconds to diagnose--bad bearings in blower motor. Part ordered and will be installed tomorrow. Dealer says in/out in about a half an hour.

I thought that I might add to this old thread. My 2011 Overland also developed the fan noise issue around 35K miles. I dropped the blower, expecting to find debris or an obvious bearing issue. I noticed that the bolt that holds the fan to the housing was extremely corroded. So corroded, in fact, that I had a hard time determining if it was actually a hex head that I was looking at. Obviously, some water is getting by the in cabin filter. My guess is that the corrosion traveled down the bolt, and began to affect the bearings.

Only about 15 minutes to drop the blower, and 150 for the new part. My GC is covered under the extended warranty, and I had it replaced at the dealer yesterday. All is well, but I think it will most likely happen again, unless the water issue is addressed. My plan is to drop that blower again, and coat the top bolt hex in either a lithium grease, or maybe even a glob of silicon sealant to prevent this new part from corroding. Has anyone else noticed this?

I bought a certified used 2011 WK2 and after a couple of months I noticed a consistent buzzing sound coming from the HVAC fan. Just loud enough to be irritating when you have to listen to it every day. You can only really notice it when the fan is running with 2 bars showing on the fan display (manual mode). The problem is, that's the speed the fan normally settles in on when the HVAC is in auto mode. Doesn't matter if the AC is on or not. As long as the fan is running at that speed you hear the noise. Been to the dealer twice so far where they performed TSB 24-007-11 and then replaced the blower. Neither fixed the problem. Going back in again today for another try. They’re thinking duct this time. We’ll see.

When I went back to pick up my truck after the third visit- the ticket said they took the fan assy out, checked the compartment and put everything back together and the buzzing was gone. When I talked to the service manager, he mentioned they actually found some rust on the fan assy and once they cleaned it off the noise went away. Makes me wonder if they ever actually replaced the fan assy when they said they did. If it was a rust problem on the fan somewhere (wasn't clear where), the noise should've stopped when they replaced the fan assy on the second visit. At least all the work was done under warranty and the problem is gone, but not looking forward to when my warranty runs out.

I am in the same situation as you with the extended warranty. Was $150 the actual amount you paid for your deductible? Or did you pay less, since you have the extended warranty?

Thanks.

Keeping this old thread alive here.

2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude

Just under 15,000 miles - I have this same issue everyone is describing here. Anything lower than full blast on the HVAC the fan behind the glove box is loud - it sounds either like bad bearings or the fan has sucked up

Guess I'll be seeing the dealer this weekend.

Another stir-up on this thread. I've got the same issue with my '14 Limited. Blower makes a buzzing/whine sound which makes it sound like it's coming from the passenger side air vent. Started around 9k miles. Noise goes up and down along with the speed of the fan. Anything over level 5 or 6 and the air noise will probably drown it out. Had a tech check it out today, said yep, blower motor, have replaced a bunch so far. He actually went on to say that he replaced one that was even louder than the original so it sounds like the quality is sub-par with these things. Anyways, dealer is ordering part and will replace shortly.

I've also fallen victim to the faulty HVAC fan, as the noise just started up out of no where one day.

Sometimes it is completely inaudible and not a problem. But then I'll come back to the car and start it up to be greeted with the lovely buzzing sound when the air is on. It's been getting worse and more frequent, so I'll probably bite the bullet (again) and take it in to have the techs stare at me like a dumbass. Maybe they'll actually understand with this problem because it seems fairly common. We'll see...

I had this happen this morning. Took it to my dealer and the tech looked at me and said he only heard the normal sounds of a vent. It appears I am going to have to twist some arms to get this repaired. This is also my first problem with the jeep and first visit to the service department. Not thrilled thus far.

Just to report back in, in case people didn't read my response in other threads on the same issue, I was able to get it fixed. They replaced my fan motor, in case that is a place to point in the direction of being a problem for your service tech.

They "just barely" heard it for a second and decided it was worth replacing. I was surprised they did it so easily and actually resolved the problem on the first try. Who knows how your dealer will respond though, unfortunately.

Just wanted to ask..I have a '14 Limited and also had/have this FAN-Problem. Compared to another Jeep Overland at the Garage and the Blower was 100% silent there. Mine was worst on level 2 (which happens to be the level usually running while in AUTO).
They replaced the blower and it seems to be slightly more quiet. I could live with it like this, but would like to know from you if your Blower is completely silent at level 2 since the replacement? Should I make them replace a second time if it is still slightly audible?
Thx for any input...

If your not satisfied, have them change it. The dealers should look into putting a insulated panel under dash. Would help with noise. I have one in my Dodge Caliber.

I bought a 2011 JGC Limited as it was traded in at 36K miles. I noticed a few weeks later that the HVAC blower made slight noises when running. It was gone when system was shut off. I purchased a service contract with the used Jeep, which came in handy as the HVAC blower needed to be completely replaced. $100 deductible. Last February had the Jeep in for an unrelated service of 4WD issue. Reading the jeeps codes showed a gearing issue in the A/C as well. Since I was having the sensor on 4WD system repaired they fixed the gearing and recharged A/C. I think the HVAC blower issue is fairly common.

Same issue here on 2014 Laredo. I'll be taking it in to the dealer shortly but it's nice to see we have a common denominator here.
Just letting you know this happened in my 12' WK2 then it went away by itself

:confused::confused:
