So... does anybody know if the "tentative" plans include an 8-speed on the 2013 Grand Cherokee SRT8?

 

there are plans for the ZF....but no mention of how many speeds...could be 6-8.

 

Whichever way it goes (6 or 8 speed).... keep in mind the cost of these gearboxes in a few years time when they are out of warranty.

The 6 speed ZF is a common fitment to our Australian Ford Falcon since 2006 (after many MANY years of a bulletproof 4 speeder) and only now are we realising that although a vast improvement in drivability and incremental fuel consumption improvements, the HUGE negative is that these ZF's are completely sealed units, not repairable, and cost in the order of $8 to $9 thousand dollars to replace!!!!! .... not short of the value of the entire car second hand!

Well hopefully by the time the new ZF comes out, Chrysler will once again have to resort to the "Lifetime Powertrain Warranty" like I have on my 08 Laredo

I thought Milous posted on the Red site that all the vehicles EXCEPT the SRT line was getting the new transmissions.

 

I meant in ChryCo brands...there actually talk of a 9 speed in some chryco vehicles.

This is interesting, I really hope its the 8 speed non-sealed US version because from what Marlins saying that just isnt going to work. Plus the 8 speed should give us little better economy and closer ratios with the proper setup will be much more efficient through the gears.

Personally, I dont think there's any way Chrysler can afford to be swapping out $8-$9k trannys if/when there's issues so Id assume they'd have models that can be rebuilt if need be but this is all logical speculation haha
