Black roof, Yay or Nay

Right, so I was originally going to get the roof rails painted body color although the fact that if they ever had to come off and the flimsy nature of them made me wonder how well the paint would hold up. So I've decided to leave them unpainted and just get the metal bar sprayed gloss black.

After that I wondered about getting the roof done in gloss black, like Scott's. I'd be going for vinyl since I love the ability to go back to standard if I decide against it down the line.

So, a silver Jeep with a gloss black roof - whatcha think?

Doesn't look bad on a car:

You got any pics you could post here?

Done a crummy Ps of it, note how it is only the inner roof I'm thinking of doing, the other part you see from the side and looks like part of the door...

Sweet, I'll need to find a shop to do it now, but I think it'll look great and save me polishing the roof. It's a major PITA operating a buffer up there... :D

Why do you even have to ask?

LOL! I know, I just wasn't sure about how it'd look on silver...

Thanks for voting guys, well and truly made my mind up now.

Do it Marty. I got a gloss black roof on my silver galant and it looks great.

Looks great Joe!! Better be 100% sure you want gloss black painted on though, at least plasti-dip and vinyl come off - with some effort, but still!

Thanks for posting!

Do it but the sides MUST line up with windshield width and rear window as close as possible.

do it.....it has to be gloss black IMO....and go from door to door. Dont just do the middle. I had to wait on gloss black vinyl for my roof and it was worht the extra week of wait.

I'll need to take better pics of the roof area when I get the Jeep back, but the part I turned black lines up perfect with the rear window, still have a tinted 3rd tail lights which will look great there too.

Doing it door to door would be a no go I'm afraid. It would match the width of the windshield but due to the design of the rear quarter panel, it would mean doing a thin strip all the way along that at the top which IMO would look pretty crap. The WK has a more uniform roof.

Here's a real bad Ps of it from above, you can see how the rear quarter basically extends down to the windshield. From above it may look, alright, but from the side which is more important it wouldn't sit right. Bear in mind, the roof rails will be refitted as I can not stand seeing those stupid fixings and didn't want a 500 buck bodyshop bill to remove, smooth then repaint the whole roof to get rid of them...

Soon as I pick the Jeep up I'll grab a few shots and update this thread with real photoshops not the crap you are seeing here!

Ah! I gotcha, I see where you're coming from now dude. Didn't think of that. Yeah it wouldn't look that great if you did the whole roof. Better with the initial idea:thumbsup:

I'm still tempted to do matte black viper stripes:confused:
