Oil in air intake box

This would scare the heck out of me. I'm an older guy, and not sure about todays engines but on occasion when I found oil in air filters years ago, I found that after doing a compression check that sometimes it was a bad, faulty or cracked piston ring. In those cases, some compression gets by the piston and cylinder wall and pressurizes the crankcase blowing oil up the breather tube of the air filter compartment.. "Blow by" Try the PCV valve but if it continues and if its under warranty just have them look at it.

One more note. Have 2 2012 WK2s both with Penstar V6 since new. Best most reliable cars I've ever owned. Only a couple slight quirks on one of them. One has about 85,000, the other about 75,000. Both have original PCV and neither has had a drop of oil in the air intake last time I checked. MAYBE... slight darker residue on filter itself but not sure if its was oil or just regular built up road soot.

Hey NinjaGrunt, I've never had the opportunity to tow with either of these vehicles as of yet. Not sure about other years but my 2012s both had towing packages from factory that I insisted on for one main reason. Full sized spare tire INSIDE NOT UNDER THE VEHICLE was standard with the package. My last AWD vehicle before this was a joke. They gave me a doughnut under the vehicle that could not be used 25 MPH or limited distance. I read later that anyone who installed that tire couldn't drive at all because the different sized diameter tire threw the AWD system and computer shutting down the car. I might be wrong but it leads me to believe that many manufacturers might be eliminating spare tires for that reason and not for saving gas as some salesman try to convince me. For years they've told us don't put fix a flat in tires because its bad, now its the perfect replacement for a smaller diameter tire when most cars are AWD. ????????

To get back to towing question, The overland has air lift suspension, the other vehicle has standard. The towing package on the standard suspension came with special self leveling shocks. Not air shocks but self leveling hydraulic. THOSE ARE STILL THE LITTLE QUIRK I MENTIONED EARLIER! I had those expensive shocks replaced several times under warranty. They have been making noise as always ever since the warranty ran out. They get a little intermittent, fluttery, or clunking noise if its quiet in the car wile you drive over wavy roads. It went away every time they replaced them but returned again around 8 to 10 thousand miles each time. "It sounds like its in the spare tire compartment, but is still there if you remove everything in it". I've read about this on other forums and it was a known issue back then. Not sure if these shocks even offered on newer models or if they still exist. I was told by dealer back then they were German manufactured parts from the Daimler design. Anyway I also read that some people like me had the dealer replace them with standard shocks under warranty and they would only if you signed a waiver.

I cant speak of the curb weight or limits. I'm sure its listed online. Believe me I've towed lots of things with older full sized trucks of multiple brands with V8s. They didn't have half the HP or pick up of this V6. I would say no problem to anything reasonably sized!

Hi Mongo53,
I know this is an old thread and realize my comment about the spare tire sounds "hard to believe". The exact car I was speaking about was a 2009 Dodge Journey R/T. Look it up if you don't believe me. ABS and AWD warning lights and stalling from gear box locking if driving with supplied smaller diameter spare with AWD models. I couldn't feel secure on road trips without a spare tire. Especially because NOBODY had overpriced tires for that specific car and only one manufacturer even made them who also, ONLY SUPPLIED THEM TO MOPAR DEALERS AT THE TIME! I traded it in on the wk2 WITH trailer package for that very reason. Full sized real belted tire that can handle a trailer being towed too at any speed or distance. Well worth the factory installed price.(y):)
