Should add, dads didnt have warrenty when we got it, and mom needed a seatbelt.

 

Adding myself to this seat belt party, I'm a new owner of a used 2015 GC Limited, and have the seat belt problem on the passenger side. Does this notification letter have some sort of ID number to reference it?

Hey Kenzen, I do not believe mine did but not 100% sure. When at the dealer, when they put in my VIN it pulled up that it was covered under the extended warranty. Have them check both sides, upon closer inspection, my passenger side had also started cracking so they replaced both for me.

This happened to my 2014 grand cherokee summit. I took a dremel tool with a drill style cutting bit and i followed along the crack in the plastic on the side that was pinching the belt. As your grinding you will see the belt start retract. Its been working since.

 

I've been waiting 4 months to get mine replaced, they are on "national backorder". Mine has that crack but to me the problem is deeper than that, the retraction spring acts like it's lost most of it's mojo and barely pulls the belt in even when you shove it thru that slot. I can work it thru and get it fully retracted but it just seems way too weak of a pull to be normal.

 

Does anyone know what you reference when talking to the dealership? I have a 2012 JGC where the driver seat belt doesn't retract

 

Have you checked to see if your problem is only that cracked piece of plastic that causes binding?

 

Update. Seat belt was to be replaced in January when having some other maxcare work done. At one time they gave me an expected date of July 18. Called and it wasn't in, seat belts were still on national back order, mine was supposedly on top priority list. From what they told me they only expected to get about half a dozen of them in for the whole country. A couple weeks ago I checked again and nothing available and the current story is they have changed suppliers and are now waiting for the new supplier to start churning them out. No ETA. So far an 8 month wait.
