Service Shifter?

35K views 20 replies 10 participants last post by  kenzen
Hey everyone, I just have a question. I started my car this even and I got this "service shifter" message on my screen and I'm not sure what that means?

Is this something major? minor?

Is this something I should expect to be an expensive fix?

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee plain stock with 55k plus miles and I really haven't had any issues until now and of course I don't have any more warranty.

It pops up the message every time I start the car now and it goes away when I'm driving around my block. I haven't drove long distance yet but I will be tomorrow.

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of question, I'm just trying to see where my wallet may be heading lol

Thanks in advance for any input

Hey itsLymeLite,

We'd recommend visiting your dealership to have this looked into and to get a diagnosis. They can best assist in determining the needed repairs and can also assess whether any warranties apply, such as your Powertrain warranty - this is usually a 5-year/100,000 mile warranty for your model year. If you need additional assistance, just private message us any time!

Hello everyone -

My WK2 (MY2015 3.6L Flex/4wd) has consistently given me the service shifter warning on start-up for the last month or so. Like IAmTodd, it doesn’t seem to have much impact on driving but it often pings me again when I attempt to engage cruise control - which itself just got serviced under a recall. The most annoying part is that it started just after I went out of the 36k warranty. Have any of you had success getting the shifter replaced under the extended drivetrain warranty?

For the JeepCares folks - I’ve been driving Grand Cherokees for 20 years. Never had so many workmanship related issues as I’ve had with the WK2. It’s a comfortable car and capable off-roader. But something as basic as the shifter shouldn’t be failing after 37k miles.
Hi Caljur,

We're sorry to hear this is happening with your vehicle, and we understand your frustrations with this. Have you had the chance to speak with a certified dealer regarding the shifter issues? They should be able to inspect your concerns for a diagnosis and see which warranties this may fall under. Please PM us if you need any assistance!
