Still no word on 4Xe availability. Trying again, anyone heard anything regarding availability?

Yesterday we test drove the Volvo XC60 Extended Range Inscription. About the same price ($a 73.5K) as a loaded Overland 4Xe. Pretty amazing SUV with about 500HP combined. It is quick. Audio system is amazing. We may jump ship if we don't get some info soon. Have a Volvo lined up for the sticker plus a couple of add ons like Cila Jet for $2900. $23K trade on our 2015 Summit.

This lack of info from Jeep is pretty bad.

 

Update - we went with the Overland 4Xe

 

Haven't heard anything, but I'll bet they are waiting on some "chips" to arrive. It doen't seem the computer chip makers will ever catch up. Good luck.

 

For those that might wonder. Our local dealer had ordered an Overland 4Xe, Advanced Pro Tech Group III and Luxury Tech Group IV. It had VIN and VON assigned. White with Global Black interior. Exactly what we wanted to order. So we agreed to buying it and paid a deposit. They are adding our name the order.

Status says: BG - "Order has passed edit but cannot be considered for scheduling".

Not sure what that means but the dealer seems to feel it could arrive August / September. We are fine on waiting as the price is agreed to by the dealer. They also may be good with Tread Lightly put we really won't know till it arrives. Althea said is worst case will be the window sticker.

Sold our 2015 Summit Eco Diesel, 71000 miles, today for $25K. Thought this was best as we have other vehicles and I'm really starting to think the used market could be heading South in a few weeks.

 

Please share with us how you were able to order an Grand Cherokee Overland 4xe when the rest of us are unable to. I am in the market for one myself, maybe just a plebeian Trailhawk 4xe. Which dealership? Any advice on how they managed to place the order? Secret codes? Are they all saying "no you cannot order yet" but secretly the order banks are open? Please provide details. Thank you.

Walnut Creek is a tad far from me...But good for you. Good find, taking over an existing order.

 

FYI - we got our name on the order at Walnut Creek CA Jeep. They also has some Trailhawks and a Summit.

 

I can't imagine they would even ship a 4xe with an eLSD delete, but make sure yours has that and all the other off road bits. The eLSD is basically impossible (or prohibitively expensive) to add later. The McIntosh audio is very worth it, as is the self-steering in the tech package, assuming they're putting that on the 4xe models. I'm not up to date on what things they may currently be awaiting or 'deleting' re current supply chain issues, but most of those things can't be added later, or are vastly more expensive to add (air suspension, trailer hitches, eLSD, etc have been issues in the past).

 

They are assuring us that all features will be there . I'm pretty sure the 4Xe design requires the ELSD.
It appears to be standard on all 4Xe's. Perhaps needed for the "e" part to support off road 4X driving.

Only thing I don't need is the hitch - got a F250 for that task.... They are saying the hold may be because of the ELSD. Worst case, we'll refuse the Jeep till one arrives with all features intact.

We drove 2 V6 overlands that just came in and all that was not on them was the ELSD. They literally just arrived. We're patient, we'll just drive our GT 350 or the F250, and or the 18 year old Mercedes....

 

I guess I'd better get back to researching to see if the 4xe will work for us. The biggest concern I have is the batteries being drained if we're parked at the airport for a week in the winter during one of our cold snaps where the temperature may not go above -20F for a few days. If that does happen, will the 12V battery be able to start the gas engine and not rely on the lithium batteries until it is back in the garage?

 

You should be OK - I believe the 12V starts the gas engine. This why the Plug In was our choice over a pure electric.

I see a Volvo XC-60 being cross shopped. Any other PHEV's? I think the BMW X5 xDrive45e is priced in the same ballpark as the 4Xe. I'm not necessarily a Bimmer fan, but seems to get good reviews.

 

From what I've heard, getting a BMW X5 xDrive45e right now is everything but easy as well. Super high demand.

 

The reason we passed on the Extended Range XC60 - software issues that has been shutting down the car. The Volvo is tightly coupled to Google and the latest update caused issues. Also the interface is a bit too much like a tablet.

We have had 8 Grand Cherokees over the years and as my wife said when she test drove the 2022 Overland V6, It feels like a old friend only better. Never looked at the BMW as I really don't care for the looks.

The Overland driving experience just seems to be better for us.

As far as reliability, if you have owned Jeeps you know there can be issues but in general we are die hard Jeep fans.

 

I think they are doing all electric GCC next year

 

If I could just get our Hybrid that's on order I'd be happy. We're in CA and in the summer they cannot seem to keep the power on in Northern California,

We're already use to a little noise - we had the Eco Diesel. We expect to never use gas around town, of course there is a cost to charge. Like it or not the Hybrid and all electrics are coming.

Of course the final decision on if we will proceed will be when the one we have the deposit on passes the test drive.

I'm a bit disappointed in the delay I was hoping these would be available by now, I'm looking to replace our diesel GC and this hybrid formula seems perfect for us. I don't commute, the truck gets used for short trips around town and 3-4 round trips per year, MI to CO - the diesel is perfect for those but not ideal for short trips. Plus we already have a Tesla connector in the garage. I inquired about ordering and was told 2023 MY was not open yet.

 

Same situation for us - Eco Diesel used for trips - we are waiting on an order we have with our servicing dealer. They claim we will our 2022 around Aug/Sept. Sold our 15 Eco Diesel Summit a couple of weeks ago. Got $25K with 71000 miles. Decided to all while th prices are high. Now we are waiting but due to the lack of clarity regarding the "when" we may get our deposit back and move on.

 

Just got off the phone with two other dealers. All of their 4Xe's are BG Status. One sales guy said they have been told nothing another said they were told end of the year. In my opinion end of the year 2022 model is crazy. You get a new ride, pay a steep price and it comes with a full year depreciation.

If Jeep "Cares" they would start fessing up in the public form.
Sold the Eco Diesel 2 weeks ago. Aug / Sept was OK. End of year / next year - not so OK.

I'm finding it hard to believe that this is a "parts" issue. This is beginning to sound like an EPA thing and or some intense design issues.

 

Update - we cancelled out on the 4Xe. We thought thru how we drove our other Grand and it was mostly extended trips. Not much around town. Once we did the numbers there was no significant saving. In addition our annual insurance cost was $500 / year more for the 4Xe. This was due to the cost to repair on a battery based vehicle.

Monday I found a White Overland in Los Angeles, same color and same options (Luxury Tech Group IV, Advanced ProTech Group III and Uconnect 5 Nav with 10.1, 19 Speaker Audio 950 Watt Amp) . Made a deal with the Internet manager, 750 off of sticker and a fair price for the Cilajet paint sealant, wheel locks and 3M door edge guards. In addition after I told him about our wait since Jan for the 4Xe he called Jeep Corp and got us an additional $1000 factory gift / rebate for being long time Jeep owners. This is # 8 for us.

We got pretty fair pricing given the current Jeep availability and pricing in CA and that they had exactly what we wanted. Sealed the deal over the phone.

Headed down to the LA area Tuesday morning check book in hand.

Test drove and bought the Jeep. Wife followed me home Wednesday up the CA coast on US 101.

Only issue, the "Service Traction Control" popped up and then cleared a couple of times. I'm wondering if it may be caused due to the tires being way over inflated. They filled them with nitrogen and they were all up in the mid to high 40's when cool. Going to adjust them down tomorrow.
The system did do an OTA software update so perhaps this is a related.

No other issues after 600 miles.

V6 seems to have plenty of power.

I will say that the Macintosh audio sounds awesome.

When I did the numbers and the miles we drive per year (about 8k to 10K) and the cost of electricity on the PG&E grid, even at night, in the San Francisco Bay Area, plus insurance cost - given the price difference even with the tax credit the annual cost was not that much different.

Worst case - if we hate it - well sell it and start over. After three days its been pretty nice.

Lastly the dealer and Internet Manager in Simi Valley keep their word. No funny business. An excellent experience.

Any update on this? I ordered a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe mid February 2022. I am still yet to be scheduled according to the Jeep Vehicle Order Tracker. Has anyone heard anything new about the timelines of delivery to dealerships? I saw only one example of someone who ordered a summit reserve 4xe in December and is just now in production, but outside of that I haven't seen any clues saying that production has even started.

UPDATE: Jeep tracker stopped letting me track, then I went to jeep chat and they said my order had a special status and that I needed to call my dealer. I called my dealer and they had absolutely no information besides that I was in C status. Previously I had been in D status. Any ideas?

 

I also ordered a Trailhawk mid Febuary. According to an E-mail we all received this spring, Jeep was looking @ starting deliveries in June/July. We're still in July - but I'm not holding my breath. My dealer THINKS it may be this fall. However, by then, we may very well deep into a recession/depression. So - we wait.

The first deliveries to dealerships are now projected to begin in late August / early September, due to unprecedented challenges within the supply chain. The first Grand Cherokee 4xe deliveries will all be 2022 Model Year. 2023 Model Year Grand Cherokee 4xes are not expected until Q4.

Jeep chat is so worthless. I just checked for fun to see what they would say about the 2022 4xe order banks. Cheryl informs me that you cannot order a 2022 and any orders people are making right now must be from dealer stock.

EDIT: Also, I asked my contact at Granger Motors about ordering a 2022 4xe and she said it is not available to order in the system.
