Has anyone had any success with the 17.11.07 update fixing the Vehicle phone requires service error message? I'd like to fix this error myself but don't want to brick the unit. Anyone have any good news on this? I've been dealing with this error for almost 2 years now.

Thanks
John

We have a 2014 that has always had that message pop up. New radio should be here next week as ours totally died' hoping once and for all that the clock, nav, and that vehicle phone message are all resolved. The radio has never worked like it should since we bought it in June of 2014. This will be the 3rd radio.

Fingers crossed the new radio works.

Wow Rick I thought I had it bad having the issue for 2 years, but at least I had a couple of good years. I would have been totally nuts dealing with this from day 1!!!! Good luck with the new radio.

Since nobody else answered my question I went ahead with the update anyway and had some shocking results. I'll post that next.

I have a very strange story from the 17.11.07 update process for you on my 2014 GC. The radio was on 16.13.13 prior to updating to 17.11.07. I have performed all the updates since the vehicle was new and I'm very comfortable doing them.

I did the update 3 nights ago and the unit bricked on the air card update as it has in past installs since 16.13.13. I loaded the software a second time with the same result. The last error screen on both attempts was, "Sierra Wireless: bolo file install failed. Please remove USB stick to reset". When the USB stick was removed it went to a blank screen with a message to insert USB stick. I figured the unit was bricked at this point and the next step was to go to the dealer.

I slept on it and got up the next morning to make coffee before going to work and attempted to remote start the Jeep, I forgot that it most likely wouldn't work in the bricked state and it did not. I tried a 2nd time and it still didn't work. I finished up what I had to do and then went out to my Jeep and found it running!!! How did this happen? I hopped in and the radio was working and the version number was at 17.11.07. I drove the 35 minutes to work and did not see the vehicle phone requires service message at all until I put the Jeep into reverse to back into a parking spot. I couldn't tell at that point if it was working correctly or not so I did a factory reset since the backup camera was blurry.

I used it the next 2 days and the Nav worked, the clock kept the right time and no additional Vehicle phone requires service popups.... Until this morning when the NAV GPS lost the location on the screen during a guided route to my work.

I really have no clue what is going on here, do you? Has this happened to anyone else? Should I try another 17.11.07 install on top of 17.11.07 to hope the aircard update works this time?

I know the answer will be to take it to the dealer but I've had no luck with that in the past 2 years since the problem started. I seem to know more about this firmware and whats going on than the dealer does. Can anyone recommend a dealer in the Philadelphia area that is good with UConnect issues? That would help.

Thanks for reading my ramblings if you made it this far!

I feel your pain John trust me. Our radio did just what you said but did not get past the bolo wireless error; so dealer ordered another radio; should be in and back to us late next week. My fingers and toes are crossed; but my past experience tells me it will only partially work and be same old same old. Only positive is that we couldn't drive the vehicle really with that continuous reboot cycle as it was doing it even when the vehicle was turned off; had to disconnect the negative battery cable at 2am, and left it that way until we get got our appt. Best of luck to us all with these issues; it's totally unsat; but we are at the mercy of FCA which is not a good place to be.

I have very similar issue but the only difference is my Nav was working perfectly before I got OTA update. I contacted FCA and they said the issue will be resolved in next update.

My suggestion is ...

1. (I am not sure if this helps) Move the vehicle to good Sprint reception area. Check you have full signal bars (three) and 3G mark. Try to call FCA assist from Uconnect system. This is just to check your Sierra Modem is really working. If you hear the dialing signal, it means working. Otherwise, you will see some error message even with full Sprint signal bars. Once everything working, try to update the software again with USB stick.

2. Since our audio is old anyway (almost 5 years old), consider upgrading to 2018 GC audio, (UAQ radio, not RA4). There are some web site who is selling it. Also, there are some thread below.

I think a lot of people that have the 911 module are also getting that pop-up. The advertised cable apparently only helps if you don't have 911.

It appeared on my system when my battery died, but getting the "low voltage" messages removed by the dealer solved that one. I think most people's problems are more serious than mine was.
