Hi all,

After delivery of my 2014 Grand Cherokee I was really disappointed when my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 failed to work with the Messaging function on my radio. The Messaging button was greyed out and I searched fruitlessly for a workaround. Well, I'm happy to report I now have my Grand Cherokee reading my texts incoming out loud and I am using my voice to author new texts and send them out.

Here is a guide to rooting your phone: READ CAREFULLY

AT&T Galaxy S3 Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

This fix will require that your Galaxy S3 is rooted. You will need to flash the operating system to the following ROM:

The ROM is located here:

Home

You will need to download Build 7:

Downloads - d2att-d2tmo - Slim-d2att-4.2.2.build.7-OFFICIAL

Flash the ROM per the instructions on your ROOTED S3.

This ROM has updated Bluetooth MAP profiles that enable the texting functions to work on the radio.

DISCLAIMER: I assume no liability if you brick your phone. If you have never rooted and flashed a new ROM on your phone I highly suggest you do your homework prior to doing so as the result could be an inoperable device. Although flashing your ROM is easy and relatively safe it will void the warranty in most cases. Although I have never had any problems I consider myself pretty tech savvy. It is a very easy process as long as you know what your doing.

Oh by the way, I am loving the new functionality and now I dont have to get a blackberry! ENJOY and good luck!!!

This bugs me as well... I have an iPhone 4s on iOS 6.1.3 which supports MAP. the message button is greyed out! GRRRRRR

OK!!! Wait. I just tried a different wording for google.

In case others need this:
iPhone 4+ iOS6+

Settings > BlueTooth > Uconnect > (the little arrow) > Show notifications > ON

says that should enable MAP!

fingers crossed!

This will get the message icon to not be grayed out, but so far I've had no success getting any messages to show in the inbox on uconnect, let alone voice to text which I believe will never be supported on IOS6 other than via Siri.

Please let me know if you get it to work.

Got a text on the way home, uconnect read it to me. Can't reply via uconnect but can use Siri, so no big deal. iPhone 4S running 6.1.3.

Says text recieved from so and so as well as displays a notification on the main screen. There is a listen button, press that and it reads it to you. The reply button is greyed out however, that's an iPhone thing as far as I have read.

It's disappointing all the trouble people have with this feature..

Blutooth and the MAP profile are a standard the Apple should be complying with.

Hope iOS 7 fixes this for you guys. This is why after 4 years I walked away from iPhone.

The notification setting is in your phone. Once paired, should be in the Bluetooth profile where uconnect shows on your paired devices list.

When crafting a message via voice it reads it back to you. So you can experiment with saying funny stuff then seeing if it got it right, and hearing her say it. She correctly heard and repeated "jackass" yesterday while I was in the car with clients. We all got a good laugh.

I've got an AT&T Galaxy S3 and text receiving and voice sending works fine without rooting my phone. The Uconnect 13.19.0 update resolved the issue. Takes a few minutes after vehicle start for Messaging button to light up on the Phone menu. Wasn't working prior to the Uconnect update.

Can you create text with voice while the vehicle is moving? (just curios since it says in the manual that you cant)

yeah i would try that.. but those of us stuck with an iPhone cant do that.... since apple has yet to fully implement the M.A.P. for it...

Yes. I can text while driving. I am using a Motorola RAZR maxx running 4.1.2 jelly bean. Which I have been told repeatedly by connect support is not "fully supported" yet.

I have experience lots of other little bugs but texting has been pretty solid.

The only issue I have had with texting is that after the car listens to my text message and sends it to the phone, the message sometimes gets stuck sending. I use the handcent SMS app and I can see the progress indicator spinning infinitely. I have not been able to reproduce the problem on demand. It seems to happen randomly

Just to be clear for you iOS users out there.

If you have turned on "Show Notifications" in the bluetooth profile and the Jeep is still unable to read/display incoming text messages. You need to delete all previous text conversations from your phone, I know that sucks but it will start to work.

As for responding/sending text from your iPhone... It's not going to be an iOS-7 fix, sorry... Sadly I don't think this feature is going to ever be implemented unless the "iOS in the car" fails.

The 2014 RA4 comes with one year of service (Uconnect Access) RA3 comes with 6 months.

Im not sure if Ucon Access is required for it to read them, or only to send (which wont matter! lol)

as far as iOS and Siri... in the 2011 i had activating Siri was a major pain... would take forever for the car to see the BT connection. Now, its almost instant! Fantastic! Hit Siri and you hear the Beep through the car and the radio pics it up like its a phone call. Very nice

I have an HTC Rezound and the messaging feature on the Uconnect does not work (greyed out). I went into the phone settings to Bluetooth/Menu button/Advanced/Check box labeled message access. I did get it to work once but no luck thereafter. Back to greyed out. Has anyone been able to get the HTC Rezound working correctly with the Uconnect messaging feature?

Mine has worked since the first day. Didn't think anything of it.

My messaging worked great until the 13.19 update. I had a Galaxy S3 on AT&T with stock android 4.1.1. ATT released 4.1.2 last week so I tried that. Didn't work. Everyone on the uconnect side says it is jeep's problem not theirs and everyone I talk to at jeep just mentions "compatibility" and that they don't know the answer.

According to the uconnectphone website, the only phone that is supported for the voice texting feature is the HTC ONE. I wonder if they got a contract with jeep or something to eliminate the "compatibility" of the other phones with new software "updates". This is bs.

Are there phone models that work 100% with the messaging feature the way it is intended? Please post your model if it works with all the uconnect messaging features.

Any plans to add additional models. Seems kind of weak to promote a feature and then have it only work with one phone.

Seeing if anyone else has this...when I pair my Galaxy S3, the message box is no longer greyed out, and it shows all of the current messages on my phone. Problem is, new messages aren't received. My carrier is Verizon, and just not sure if it is carrier, or phone related.

Thanks.

In this case if you deleted your message history and limited your conversation history to **I Believe** 20, then it will work. Simply a work around at this time, I expect longer than a 20 message history should be supported at some point in the future.
