Anyone try a screen protector on uConnect?

Hello all

Did a search for this an didn't really come up with much, but I have somewhat reluctantly not taken off the film cover on my 2019's uConnect screen yet as I figure I would let it protect that as long as possible, but I'm sure its not meant for long term use so it will probably have come off at some point.

So not that I even thought about it before (or am trying to advertise any one brand), but came across a screen protector made for the car on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/2014-2018-Na...+protector&qid=1555102148&s=gateway&sprefix=grand+cherokee+scree,aps,128&sr=8-1 and so I thought I would ask about if anyone has tried somethign like this and if they feel its worth it.

I know in the past I have gotten things like this for my phones and they usually never go on clean no matter how hard you try...and usually have to be replaced every couple of years too...so certainly wouldn't feel like dealing with that unless it was worth it.

Thanks

I suppose if one typically drives with dirty hands that have things like dirt/grit on them, that the protectors might have increased value to avoid scratching from such debris on the fingers, but I'm kinda with the previous poster that most folks will not likely derive much benefit from this inside of a vehicle on a device that is essentially stationary. But like so many things, to use or not to use is more subjective, so if you feel better using one, you should.

It definitely is subjective and, if I was the only one to touch my vehicle...no dealer, wife, detailer, etc...then that would be one thing. Just because you're careful doesn't mean others are going to respect your property...family included:) Infotainment screens on all cars can get scratches...presumably because manufacturers aren't going to use phone-quality gorilla glass or nice anti-scratch coatings....for the reason listed...you aren't going to "drop" them. As Jim pointed out...a nice grain of sand on your finger tip, fingernail, or cleaning cloth and you could have a nice permanent scratch...that would drive me nuts. A screen protector is much more cheaply and easily replaced than a screen...unless you don't care about scratches, have family members and friends that are careful and take care of other people's things, or FCA actually made a quality screen meant to handle some heavy use.

The one I put on my 2015 isn't glass, so I can't speak for that type. What I can say for the one I have is that it's been on there for 3 years without issue. No one can tell I have a screen protector unless I tell them and it didn't affect touch response at all or dim the screen.

I don't know if the newer uconnect screens are glass, but for those with screens like mine, I highly recommend it. From personal experience with previous touch screens getting scratched (by other people), It's a lot easier to replace the protector than the screen. I live in South Florida near the coast and sand is everywhere. All it takes is one careless wipe of the screen and you're done. (or a careless girlfriend with long nails)

Also, if you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time, the oils from your hands will eventually stain and /or affect the coating of the touchscreen on the most frequently used areas.

So for 10 bucks and no significant cons why not? You'll have peace of mind and won't have to worry about your little nephew stabbing the screen with a ball point pen. That happened to me, and even though he's alot older now-he's still not allowed in my vehicles.

Suggestion, if your uconnect is recessed in like mine, pull out the entire face panel. It's not that hard and it makes install so much easier. Also, make sure the screen is super clean, windows up, no AC (to keep dust down when installing) and watch out for floating hairs. Mine went on without any airbubbles. Hope that helps someone.

Hello Richardar6 and thanks for the info.

Yeah, was kinda thinking more along the lines of what you are talking about as instead of the special glass ones which I have actually had break on phones and can also scratch despite all they say, basically what I was thinking of was something not unlike what already is on there no where its a thin plastic film.

Also for those they often come with a few in the pack and are lot easier to get bubbles out of if you get any.

Lastly as they are so cheap if a install goes too wrong you can always just start over with a new one.

At any rate, am thinking you would have provided a link in your post if you had one, but still just thought I would ask if you knew where you got yours?
