Bluetooth Audio Issue

I have been having this issue for the past 6+ months with my Bluetooth audio. When I am using BT to make/receive calls the person on the recieveing end can barely hear me. It does not happen with every call but happens on average every 4/5 calls. I can also tell when it will happen when I am receiving a call since the ring tone over the unconnect will sound differently (higher pitch). It makes holding a conversation impossible.

I have tried unpairing and repairing, reset the BT settings on my iPhone, and maxed the volume on my phone while making a call. The issues does not follow my phone in other cars/BT devices and my wife has the same issue with her iphone in the Jeep. The dealership claims they cannot replicate and dismissed the issue.

I am curious if anyone else has had this problem and knows a fix or if I am looking a a hardware issue. Thanks in advance!!

Which carrier are you using? If you are not on Verizon you can skip my suggestion to try this.

You could try turning Off VOLTE (Voice over LTE).

Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options -> Enabled LTE -> Data Only

This forces all calls to only use the old Analog Service (1x) and quite often sounds better than Voice over LTE when LTE gets super busy.

As LTE gets busy it uses more and more compression and starts to sound like crap.
The older Analog lines are less busy these days and quite often sound much better.

The combination of Bluetooth Compression on TOP of the already highly compressed Voice over LTE might be what you are struggling with.

It does NOT matter how strong the LTE signal is. If the network is busy you get an itty bitty slice for voice. Also note that the Antenna Strength is for LTE (not for the old analog lines, unless you have no LTE).

This is how it is on Verizon. Sprint doesn't do VOLTE (yet).
Not sure what the GSM Carriers do or if VOLTE is optional or not.

Now the disadvantage of doing this is during a call you CANNOT receive data. This can be annoying if say you navigating (Google Maps), while on a call and you miss a turn ;) It can't reroute until you hang up. I generally leave VOLTE Off because calls are more reliable and clearer.

When in the car and I call my wife at home and it literally sounds like I'm in the room talking to her. Over bluetooth, every time. Using iPhone X.

Not responsive to OP, just posting here for info as it's a good thread heading ...

I've lately been having music sound quality issues on my BT connection, Pandora and Spotify both. It would sound almost like a little glitch or skip or blurp, just a wrinkle in the sound but happened a lot and was very irritating, to the point of giving up and plugging in the USB. Anyway, my brain finally caught up and I tried deleting and repairing, and that fixed it right up. And here was me all this time thinking it was a problem with my replacement Samsung phone ...
