So it's been almost a month and I'm still waiting to hear from the dealer for when the replacement is supposed to arrive. I guess I'm expected to continue to drive around with this thing pushing my head forward? I can't find any words that don't contain foul language to describe how I feel at this point.

What's worse, I can find the part available online if I want to purchase it- how convenient for FCA.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD/Trail Rated.
Due to cancer, my first new-to-me car in 21 YEARS!! Drove a farm truck for YEARS to afford a USED Jeep. Extensive research to find an impeccably maintained and garaged vehicle only to get WHACKED in the back of the head because Jeep/Chrysler can't recall this piece of crap plastic head rest part?? You've GOT to be kidding me! So glad it was just me and no one else in with me!
Will be reporting to NHTSA and FCA tomorrow. Called my local dealer and they told me my vehicle doesn't qualify under the bulletin?? It's the same headrest as in ALL the pictures!! Same issue! This was just a bridge vehicle to my next one which will be new. Seriously rethinking this brand. Freaking Trail Rated Jeep that BREAKS while driving in town on asphalt! Very disappointed!! Rant over.

My daughter's 2014 Jeep Compass's driver-side headrest popped for no reason and won't reset. Suggestions on how to get it fixed? there is a lot of information online but not sure what's what.
Thanks

Finally got my headrest in. Ordered it July 7th, and got it the end of September. The delay was totally the dealership's fault. The service guy said it would take "a while" when I 1st came in and couldn't give me anything more than that. I know there are delays everywhere because of covid and I'm patient and understanding. After a month, I started calling. Service would never answer the phone. Then I started leaving voice-mails to please call me when they could. Still never heard. Again I'm patient. Finally, I was able to get off work early enough to make it to the dealership before the service department closes (I work in Healthcare so it's not easy to just get off early nowadays when there's an unbelievable shortage of people in the field and overtime is no longer a choice).

Thankfully, when I came in there was a very nice lady that helped me out instead of the guy I was dealing with before. Her help was the only thing that prevented me from going POSTAL when I find out that the #@$÷@@# headrest arrived July 8th (the very next day after it was ordered) so I've been driving around for months with a headrest pushed into the back of my head for absolutely no reason.

But of course it gets better because now I have to come back to get it installed. She felt bad for me and thought I was being very nice considering. She tells me to come Saturday because it's already 5 mins before they close. I manage to get someone to cover for me and come back on Saturday. Who do I see?- the 1st guy. I have to remind him about the headrest and how long I've been waiting. Without lifting a finger to check anything, the idiot tells me "well those headrests take a while to come in". Without using foul language I let him know it came in almost 3 months ago. Unfazed, this guy precedes to tell me "well I hope you don't think it can be installed today, because we're swamped and you'll have to come back". Somehow, I maintained my composure. I will admit,, for a millisecond I thought about googling for the location of the nearest gun shop (kidding), but it was much more satisfying visualizing his head being a golf ball and me smacking that ball at least 20 times with an oversized golf club (not kidding).

I finally tell him the lady told me to come, so he tells me to talk to her, which of course I did. She got me in and out in an hour.

I'm so tired of people using Covid as an excuse to be lazy, to not to work, or as a reason to justify doing a half a$& job. What would happen if Healthcare workers were to adopt this mentality?

This problem happened to me today while cleaning my driver seat. I have a 2013 GC Laredo. 106k miles. Plastic is broken like the other pics I’ve seen. I guess I’m going to order a new headrest and replace it myself.

Just recently got the notice in the mail from Jeep that they would be extending warranty to 10 years on this particular problem.

Kate,
Thank you for your help. My driver side headrest was repaired by the dealer. Now my question is, what about the other one? It's likely it will also fail as the parts inside are the same plastic right? The dealership says they won't change out the parts if the head rest isn't broken. It feels like my passengers have a little bomb behind their heads. Can you help?
Thanks!

Its a jeep thing, nothing else can be said. The replaced headrest is probably still faulty.

I thought I was the only one! But after quick research I’m not alone! The magnitude of all these posts should convince FCA to reconsider their general response as a recall! These headrest are potentially dangerous if they’re going off randomly.

I was at the park with my family, and as I come back to my parked car I see the passenger side headrest has gone off. I didn’t even know it could do that. I would’ve opted out of the purchase of the vehicle if I knew this. I tried to set back into place but like everyone else the plastic tabs that hold the inserts of the headrest are broken. Called my dealership (Brooklyn Jeep) and they were charging me over $1000! I will try Don_Draper’s approach, hopefully this can resolved efficiently.

I may have posted this earlier in the thread or in another thread about the topic;

BUT, the only reason for the active headrest is because studies have found 85% of driver do not properly adjust their headrest, seat or do not sit in their seat properly, NOR do they bother to ever learn how they should adjust these things and how to sit while driving.

So if you're one of the 15% that has bothered to learn how to adjust your seat, head rest and sit properly while driving, this Active Headrest gets you absolutely nothing, its a wasted safety feature.

Perhaps earlier in the thread, there are posts from folks that have disabled their headrest and reset them back to normal position by simply using big heavy duty zip ties to secure the headrest back into position and keep it there.

As much as I don't like disabling safety features, everything I have read and what I have learned about crash safety (that doesn't make me an expert, so take it with a grain of salt and do your own research, your responsible for your decisions, not some guy on the internet), this feature is just for the idiot drivers that are so clueless they don't know how to adjust their seat, headrest and sit properly while driving, nor are willing to even bother to learn and do so. Which sadly this describes 85% of drivers today. This includes the designer of the first active headrest stating he designed it because studies show 85% of drivers do not adjust their seats and headrests properly or do not sit properly while driving.

If the center of the back of your head is directly in front of at least the top of the headrest and no more than 1" off the headrest, and you're sitting upright/erect, back straight, your butt in the back of the seat and against the lower part of the upright, then there is no reason for the headrest to pop out and meet your out of position head flying rearward to give you whiplash, break your neck or give you a concussion. If you're NOT one of these idiot drivers, then your reward is a nice Donkey Punch when someone rear ends you.

EDIT- Jeep is replacing due to extended warranty on the headrest!

New here- hello!
Just purchased a used, but very loved, 2003 grand Jeep Cherokee Overland last night. Drove it 28 miles round-trip today. Got into it to come home today and noticed the passenger side headrest had deployed. Im
Furious after reading all these post about no help from Jeep. Guess I’m zip tying for a while 😳

Like I said before, the Active Headrest were implemented simply because studies showed 80% of drivers don't adjust their seats and headrests properly.
So if someone were to disable their active headrest (Zip Tie it back in place), they should research how to properly adjust their seat, headrest and the proper sitting position in a car.

My understanding, the active headrest will do nothing for the person in a properly adjusted seat and headrest, sitting properly in the seat, and will give them a Donky Punch while in the accident.

Now if you're not sitting properly in the seat, have the seat and headrest poorly adjusted, you're prone to get whiplash and neck injury during an accident, the headrest will jump out and meet your head to help prevent this for the clueless/careless driver/passenger.
