I have a 2014 JGC Limited with the infamous peeling chrome above the cup holders. Did some research online and found the following. The chrome peeling is NOT actually part of the cup holders, but it is part of the "gear shifter indicator" bezel, item 12 in the diagram NOT item 14. Subtle difference but very important to the replacement. There are several part numbers out there referencing different versions with prices for one of them at about $76 (PN 1XH202X9AD) and the others at over $300. I went to my dealership and had them input the VIN to make sure we ordered the correct part. It was $76. I will update once I receive the part and install.

Just an FYI , it should be covered under warranty, and if it doesn't cover your deductible you may want to wait for something else to go wrong , i'm waiting for them to replace my second one due to I have a 100 dollar deductible

Guys I have a 2013 with the same problem, but interested to know how long the warranty is on this item and vehicle? My local dealer (UK) quoted silly money to replace so found the post about the part number and the relative cost very interesting and informative thank you:thumbsup:

My Jeep has high miles so the Manufacturer warranty ended, even though its a 2014. So I am on my own on this one. For those who are like me I will post an install once I have the part.

Here is the update to the new bezel. As I mentioned I ordered it through my dealer with them matching an online price I found. They confirmed the VIN and correct part number. The removal and install was about 10 minutes which included talking to my wife about one of our boys. :)

Use the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Interior Trim Removal document and go to page 17 - Bezel Shifter section. I have attached a few photos to help see the actual parts.

Second part.
Hello all, I have a 2012 Jeep, and for some reason the chrome on the border of the cup holder is peeling. Are you any of you guys having this problem? I understand it's a small issue but if it continues it will start to look bad.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I just happened to glance down towards the Center Console one day and noticed that the Chrome was "peeling" off the 4WD Transfer Switch [Part Number 56050139AG].

That is the switch that is to the right of the Center Console Shift that "flips-up" to engage the 4WD mechanism. I believe that you even have to "stick a pin" in the indentation to allow it to "flip-up"...

So Damn! was I pissed. Especially since I never used or touched that thing and the Wife doesn't even know what it is...

It was, however, an easy item to find for replacement and to maximize my utility I proceeded to order and replace the entire Automatic Transmission Module since I found a Brand New MOPAR OEM Unit that not only came equipped with a new 4WD Transfer Switch, but also had the chrome trim around the [PRND] Shift Gate which mine didn't have...

And since I discovered that I had to "rip out" the Center Console to install these items, I also purchased and installed a matching leather wrapped Parking Brake Lever off a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

Now all I need is the OEM [Matched] Extra Wood Trim Piece surrounding that location...

I am having this same chrome peeling issue on my 2015 GC, and just noticing it right after out of warranty, so will have to wait till something else is needed to justify the $100 deductible. And I did cut myself on those edges. I just can't believe how long this problem has plagued these Jeeps and still same problem.

Yes, I’m having the same issue with my 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo. I thought about replacing the part but it looks complicated to replace.

YES Im having the same problem not only does it look awful but i find myself cutting my fingers from this. Looking for a solution?????

Yes I have the same issue. The metal chrome is peeling around the cup holder and it's razor sharp. It's not plastic but actual chrome. I went to the Dealer who said that Chrysler would have to get involved and they gave me the 800#. I called Chrysler & then put the dealer on the phone with them. Chrysler gave the dealer a TSB NUMBER to fix it. The dealer then said there is no such TSB in the data base. Chrysler gave me an incident # and said they are escalating it. They will call me in 2 days.
And?

I know this is an older thread - but wanted to post for anyone still following it. I recently created a 3D printed replacement part. The solution worked so well, I felt like I needed to share it. So here you go!:

Dude! That's awesome! I just a few days ago bought the entire replacement console piece on eBay for less than a hundred bucks, and in amazingly good shape -- no chrome peeling whatsoever! But I'm sure it'll peel one of these days, so I'll probably go ahead and get one of these to set aside for a future need. Great product -- very helpful video -- kudos to you!

Thanks WK2-Over, glad this helped you! I have a proposal for you:
  1. Put one of these into your old console - sell it on eBay for $200 as "refurbished"
  2. If you liked the product, buy another one to keep for your future use, and still you made money on the deal!
