Ordered a taillight tint kit from Crux Motorsports this past week to replace my Lamin-X precut tint kit I installed around 3 years ago. The lamin-x was alright. Liked the color of the darkest smoke option they have, but install is a PITA. left some gnarly bubbles on the curved edges of the outer brake lights that I never got to flatten. They even sent me a replacement bulk size roll to try and fix it since the pre-cut kit did not work out (for free I may add, which I was impressed with) but even that was not clean. The lamin-x film is just too thick to get to settle around the curves on a grand Cherokee tail light.

I saw this kit (or very similar at least) on a Grand Cherokee in Knoxville where I'm in school at U of Tennessee. Did some research and came across the Crux Motorsports website, which offers kits for several makes/models. They also have a kit fo the chrome trim delete for GC as well. Love how it looks - its an outer trim and an inner tint to make up the kit which is super cool. The outer trim is just 3M vinyl wrap and the inner trim is a tint film. Outer film has options of gloss black, satin black, or matte black. I went with the gloss black which perfectly matches my wrapped reverse light bezels, and the dark smoke tint for the inner section. Install took a little over an hour, but I did it painstakingly slow because of my disappointing experience with the Lamin-x. I wanted this one to be perfect. It is a dry air-release kit so you do not need to apply it with water which also made it easier in my opinion, allowing for mistakes and being able to lift up the vinyl several times if you don't get it just right. I only had to trim one sliver but other than that you shouldn't have to do any trimming. Only thing I did not like was the inner tint film comes as one piece that covers both the outer brake light and inner tail light on the trunk panel. You put it on as one piece across the gap in trunk opening and trim it from there. My taillights do not align perfectly, so this was a bit of a challenge for me. Other than that, great kit, great look, very easy to install if you have even just minimal experience with vinyl.

The third brake light, reverse lights, and bumper reflectors are all from the Lamin-X kit that I just left on as opposed to replacing since they were all still in good condition. Crux does have tint available for these as well, each one being $14 per application. The taillight kit is $48 shipped.

Ive had the crux moto kit for a few months now. it does take a bit of finagling but comes out really nice. Especially for the price. However the thick part on the outter part of the taillight was tricky , i had a bunch of hangover to heat and fold over and or trim the excesss. However i think that was done by design.

They have an “updated” kit now that switched over in January which is what I had. I’m guessing if you have had yours for a few months you had the old design that had the excess to trim, which they updated because of feedback that some people didn’t like having to mess with it and trim
