My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokees dashboard is delaminating. I see that this has been addressed on older models but not mine. Dealer says it is not covered under warranty and it will be almost $2000 out of pocket. Can anyone assist me with how to handle this?

Warranty? Highly doubt it, the warranty on our vehicles is only 3 years 36K miles. And many have reported that the MOPAR extended service plan excludes this. Dealer might, if they feel like making an exception for you under good will. That typically only happens if you're a favorite customer of theirs; you've bought a lot of vehicles from them, they've done all of your maintenance / repairs, etc. Otherwise, I wouldn't hold out much hope that they'll do it for you. And, since it's not a safety issue, I doubt you'll see a recall.

After reading that some people have had two or three dashboards with the same issue I think I am going to glue it down. We tend to keep our vehicles until they are on their last leg. We will take pictures and keep the documentation from the estimate in the file cabinet in the slim chance they decide to replace them at some point down the road. We have to have to have a new windshield put in. The glass shop is going to come and pull the windshield off for us to give us more access. Then they will come back next week and put the new windshield in. I have lots of other things to spend my money on like food, clothing and shelter. Thanks for everyones time to answer my question.

I fixed my 2014 Summit in mint condition last year with 70K. It easy to repair without removing the dash. The dash has a vent by the windshield that runs across the dash. Grab it with a plastic trim removal tool and pull it straight up. The clips will pop out. All around that vent opening is your leather tucked under the vent. pull it up with your hand so you can get to those delaminated pockets here and there. Purchase leather glue on Amazon or wherever. I taped a straw from an empty spray bottle very tightly to the tip of the glue bottle. Use it like a syringe to pump the glue where you need it. With your clean hand spread your hand all over the leather dashboard applying pressure to attach the leather to the foam plastic dash-base. There will be certain spots where you have dips in the dash use a heavy can of food on its sides to hold the leather down while the glue sets. Snap the long vent back in and you just repaired your dash board. A pro couldn't do it any better. Before you do it study your dash how your going to do it and you will be amazed.

To the person who suggested the roller Thank You!!! We have a black dash so we used black Flex Seal. We were really careful but it was nice to have a matching color just in case. We bought a 5lb bag of sand and put the sand in
different sizes of Ziplocks. Having the windshield out was key. We live in gravel country so broken windshields are not uncommon. We will definitely check the dash each time we need a new windshield to see if we need to touch it up. Feeling really good about not spending $2000 on a new dashboard. Thanks to everyone!

Hey All I have read through several threads on here and for those that have done a self repair on the leather dash what specific type of leather glue did you use? given its going to be baking in the sun i wanted to use something that is going to endure the heat for a few years. This is the second dash in the jeep and the first one was fortunately covered with the warranty extension a few years ago but its falling apart now also. Im not taking the windshield out or looking for perfection but hopefully i can get it good enough to go a few more years. thanks!

I had the same leather dashboard issues with my 2017 Grand Cherokee Overland. @JeepCares and my dealer offered me free parts for the repair, but I still had to pay for labor. Given that i'm in norcal and labor costs are high (esp at the dealer!), that was still over $2k. Other than the dashboard, the car is in great shape and since I plan to keep it for many years, I went ahead and did the repair. Well, the joke is on me because its already coming apart less than a year later and the dealership says that Jeep won't offer me any assistance. Something to the effect of why would they do something again that has failed 2x? This is despite the car being in shade most of the day, and using a weathertech shade to cover the windshield and the dash. So I guess I'll take a look at the $4 repair option in the video. Anyone actually done it that can report back on how well it's holding up? I don't see any comments in youtube about the long term success.
