Has anyone else had this issue. Just noticed this on my 2018 GC. The display screen is starting to delaminate. See photo. It is not a crack, it looks like layers are separating (delaminating). Will they have to replace the whole unit or is the screen separate???

^^^

Yep got mine replaced last week (under warranty still). Took a few weeks to arrive but I had sent photos to the dealership to avoid an extra trip. There was a code on the invoice said replaced "UNDER SOR 997163*". So I am assuming they musta gotten a bad batch of them or a more common issue. The new WL Grand Cherokee is reported to have the display separate from the radio part so that would cut down on screen only replacement costs by a lot since they had to replace the whole radio unit in mine.

Just got off the phone with Chrysler and they told me mine wasn’t covered. I would have thought a 2018 would still be under the 3 yr but I guess because I am at 60k miles it’s not covered. Wish I would have known when I bought this thing the tiny little bubble at the very top corner would turn into a HUGE issue. Any suggestions for NON warranty repairs?? I can’t spend $2500 to get this fixed. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Yes, check the screen and anything else before the 3/36 is up. I bet the radio replacement isn't cheap if out of pocket. They had to keep my GC overnight to check out the sunroof but was told the radio swap would normally be an hour or two type of thing. Gotta love those minivans for rentals.... LOL

Yep totally understood and have been checking.
But these things seem like they fail right after the bumper to bumper warranty.
I'm having some maybe a little regrets buying this TrailHawk with many air suspension failures documented here, my power RV mirror acted up once and now this here screen issue.

What could possibly happen next to keep me from sleeping at night. lol

Don't have the Mopar ext. warranty but got two others including a platinum plan with one of them.
Hopefully they'll cover most of these GC issues but the real test will be when i apply for a claim when or if need be.
We'll see.

Mine started as well months ago. Unfortunately i got the UAQ as a replacement for my 2015 GC in order to have CarPlay.
So in order to avoid to purchase the entire radio, i found and purchased just the screen replacement from eBay.
First time i received a defective screen which was showing a starting delamination in the upper left corner.
Sent it back and ordered another one from a different supplier.
The first supplier confirmed to me that after my claim he checked his supply and found an entire batch of defective screens !
This is my screen:
227663

And this is the screen I received:

227664

Eventually the delamination will begin to affect the digitizer layer ( the touch sensitive layer ) and the radio will begin to act crazy as if you were touching randomly the screen which is my situation now...

Mine just started going crazy, changing radio stations and temperature all on its own...GPS going nuts too. Took it to the dealership and it's $1400.00 to replace it. Called Jeep advocate and they set up a case file. The person I spoke said our VIN number does fit the group with a known bad batch of screens. Why is this not a complete recall? Waiting now for the case worker to call me back if they ever do...

I have received and replaced the defective screen of my UAQ 2018. The new screen looks shiny compared to the old one and i am pleased with the new look

Hello guys. New the forum. My wife has a 2018 jeep grand cherokee Trail hawk. And her screen is changing songs and calling people on its own. And of course its out of warranty and she didn't get the extended warranty. Has anyone tried to work with a dealership and having it fixed or just pay out of pocket to have it replaced?? Thanks

Hi, I'm sorry to hear this. Please let me know if you plan on visiting a dealership for this concern. I would be happy to open a case for you.

Sadly on doing research I have also seen mixed reviews on the replacement radios, I've seen some say they delaminate as well and others saying they've had no issues. I am extremely disheartened. I can live without my radio, but I read something can start leaking inside and possibly mess up the air conditioner system as well? I just don't understand how this isn't a recall being it's such a common issue, not if but WHEN it happens. I guess recalls are only in place for issues that are possibly life threatening?

From my experience in electronics, i can say this: the lcd screen is manufactured by LG. The defective one is the matt ( opaque ) looking screen. The culprit for delamination is the extreme heat generated by the screen itself and the consequent melting of the glue between the glass layer and the digitizer layer of the screen itself. The new replacement screen i found and purchased on eBay is still made by LG and has a shiny look instead of matt ( opaque ). This new screen doesn’t generate the extreme heat that the defective one did and should last forever.
If you are out of warranty, you can purchase the replacement screen and replace it yourself. You can find instructions for extracting the radio unit from the dashboard and also to replace the lcd screen

My screen just started to delaminate yesterday. Out of warranty now. Can you provide a link or info on which screen to buy on ebay that you had success with?

I will try this if it is not too hard to do. Where can I find instructions on how to replace just the screen and not the whole UAQ unit? Thanks.

Thank you for contacting Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The warranty for FCA vehicles sold in the U.S. is only valid in the U.S. or Canada.

FCA won’t provide warranty coverage for vehicles exported from the U.S. to other countries by anyone other than FCA, unless the vehicle is registered and normally used in the U.S. or Canada.

We can therefore unfortunately not assist with covering this defect under warranty.

While we understand that this outcome to your request is not what you were hoping for, please do not hesitate to contact us in the future, were you to have any further query.

Kind regards,

Marco Verpilio

UPDATE: The dealership ordered a new radio Sept 30th under factory warranty. It is now Nov 26 and still NO new radio. They keep telling me it hasn't come in yet. Screen is getting worse!

So last Friday I called customer care and told them it's been close to 3 months waiting on a new radio....Would you believe as of Wed the dealership had it in and today Thursday it was installed. It looks to me like it's a clearer screen and it feels slightly different. Hopefully the problem is corrected.

When I was dealing with customer care on the replacement I asked the same question (they had no idea nor did the dealership) The only thing I can tell you is that the surface on the replacement radio seems to be smoother and a bit clearer....

Would you be so kind as to post what you found on Ebay? My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is doing the same and it has too many miles for this to be under warranty. I'm trying to find one on Ebay too. I have the part number of the part, but I'm not trying to spend $500 for the whole thing if it's only the screen that needs to be replaced.

I've tried "2018 Jeep grand cherokee lcd screen", "uconnect screen". I don't know which exact one I should type in to search.

Help?

This is a known issue on all Mopar vehicles. I would go to the dealership first they may take care of it free of charge. It's so bad I waited 2 1/2 months before they got my replacement, that's how backed up they are. It's worth a shot!

2018 Jeep GC limited 4x4 just called Jeep cares and was told there was nothing they could do to replace my screen because I was at 83k miles, several dodge and Jeep forums talk about this issue and is a known issue I’m not sure why this hasn’t been recalled. They know the units are doing this and are replacing them but because of my miles I have to pay out of pocket, doesn’t seem right to me. Highly upset Jeep owner right now and for this to be my 1st Jeep and to have this issue and the lack of support from Jeep it will probably be my last.

Mine just started delaminating. I am just nearing the end of a 39mo lease. I am now worried that when I turn it in they will charge me for this! Should I contact the dealership now? It sounds like the parts wouldn’t be in before my lease is up anyway. I can’t afford to pay for the repair out if pocket right now & I assume it is now out of warranty. Any advice???

Man, I searched all over for a thread like this back when mine started to delaminate.:)
Same as most, a 2018 GC Overland, and I was over 3y36k, but with my max care, it was covered. Just had to pay my $100 deductible. Anyway the dealer ordered it, called about two weeks later when it came in. Went today, and it probably took 15min to install. I agree with the comments by others, the new screen does look clearer and shaper. Hopefully, it won’t suffer same fate, down the road..
