Engine shuts down after 1-2 seconds from start

Hello, I have a problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 3.0 CRD.
When I start the engine it shuts down after 1 or 2 seconds, and throws an oil light on the dashboard. I checked the oil level it is where it should be.
This does not happen all the time when I start the engine, some time it starts perfectly, but some times it shuts down 2 times in a row.
I also noticed that RPM varies when I start the engine and when I start driving until engine temperature rises up.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards.

If the oil light comes on after the engine has stopped it is because the oil pressure is low. The oil pressure is low because the engine has stopped and it is no longer circulating the oil.

I do not know why it shuts down after a few seconds. If this happens when you use the remote start there are several reasons, such as if the low fuel light is on or if there is an active fault code.

Also, welcome aboard. :)

Thank you for your reply, I am not using remote start, it is keyless start button. Fuel light is not on or any other errors.

I have had the same issue, thought it was a Defective Oil filter because i had changed the Oil about 500mi prior to it happening. I have the Maxi Care Life time unlimited mile Warranty so the dealer found and replaced the Oil Pressure sensor/ switch and i have not had the issue again.

Kind of, it would not let me go above 55 miles an hour. Sensors are not that expensive but if you take a multi meter and check the resistance it will help you determine if it’s Faulty or not

Have a read of this thread - particularly post #10 by me. Exact same symptoms except the engine rpm variation from hot to cold which I don't think is related.
All the best

I have the same issue with my 2011 GC 3.6L. I believe there was a recall for this issue where they (dealer) install an external fuel pump relay under the hood on the passenger side, mine still did it even after the fix.
I find that if I hold the start button for a few seconds or until the engine is running before letting go it will stay running also it never shuts off if the remote start is used to start it.
I’ve read where it’s thought that the immobilizer security system is the issue, the engine starts then the system doesn’t recognize the key fob and shuts it down.

When my wife's Jeep does this, it's usually a low key fob battery. There are two signals between the key and the vehicle. The first allows you to unlock the door and start the engine. The second keeps it running. There is a point at which the battery isn't drained enough to trigger a low battery warning but it doesn't have enough juice for that second signal to complete properly.

The fuel pump relay can also cause it, but I replace 3+ key fob batteries to one fuel pump relay.

Best way to figure out if it's the battery or the relay is to pull out the start button and plug the key directly into it. If it's the relay, the stalling will still happen. If it's the battery, having the key fob plugged in will allow it to communicate even with a dead battery.
