Hi
I have just bought a 3.0 CRD Ltd exe Grand Cherokee. All works well exept I have a worry about starting in the mornings. Engine cranks for up to 10 seconds before starting . Heater lamp comes on and go´s out after a few seconds befor I try to start, (temp in mornings is about 12 degrees c) Handbook says it can take up to 30 seconds in very cold weather. The rest of the day no problems fire first turn.

regards

Thanks for the imfo I was thinking like that but expected to get some form of error code. My dealer is about 100 miles away so I was trying to get as much info as possible before driving over there just for him to tell me he cant find anything wrong unless I leave the Jeep with him, and then he can start to build up his holiday fund for next year.

I have a 2008.5 CRD. And it gets pretty damn cold in Calgary. About the same temperature as you state. the manual says you should plug it in (block heater) whenever is gets below freezing... I do that and have had no issues like you are mentioning. I turn the key to on, watch the glow plug icon light and when it extiguishes, I start her up. The only times (x3) it has ever taken more than a few seconds to start, it threw a code... and the engine was hot.

I have never plugged my 08.5 in. I am trying to see just how cold it can get for starting issues. So far here in Ontario Canada the coldest day which was around -45 with windchill it started just fine, now my transport it had a problem starting that day.
