So I have a 2010 Jeep Commander with 3.7L.Last week we had a heavy snow. On day 2 I head down the lane to try to get to work. When I get to the road I see that the drifts were about 4ft high. So I put it in reverse and I'm stuck. So I get her rocking and get her back into the field. I started to swing wide and head back to the house. I hit a deep spot and she stopped dead in her tracks. Put her reverse and nothing. Opened the door and give her gas and see that no tires were spinning. 2 days later when I'm able to get it cleared from around her i try again. Nothing. I check under her while in gear and see that the front d/s is turning but the rear d/s isnt. So brother in law came over and pulled me up to the house. Now 3 weeks ago I installed a 3" suspension lift and when I was done I had a clicking from the front end. Kinda figured it was a cv joint going up. But if I blew a cv joint on the front axle would this keep her from moving under her own power.

With the QT1, if you break a path to ground the jeep isnt going anywhere. So you likely dont have a broken axle. Ultimately in the snow, if you get one tire on super slick ice, you have one wheel drive. All the power goes to the one wheel.

If I am remembering correctly, the QTI has no low lock option for the transfer case. With the QTII and QD you get a low gear and more importantly for you, a transfer case lock. At the very least with QTII, you will have 2 wheel drive (one front, one rear) and the QD goes a step further and you get limited slip differentials to try and keep all wheels spinning.

My old 05 Grand Cherokee with QTII was a beast and I never got stuck. In all fairness, I was also not dealing with 4' snow drifts. my QD commander is a monster and refuses to even act stuck.

So just a follow up. Got ol girl in the shop and up on stands. Put her in gear and all the wheels turned except for the front passenger which was making a horrible noise. Crawled under and seen that the shaft was spinning but the tire wasnt. Automatic red flag to a broken knuckle. Ordered a new axle, lower strut mounting bolts(both sides) and the bushings that go in the a arm. Broke her down but had to break out the fire wrench to get the bolts out. Them things get stuck pretty good. What a horrible design. So long story short shes back together and running.
