Hi all,

Have any of you had this issue. I hear a squeaking noise as the wheel turns from the rear passenger side wheel. Seems to go away within a few hundred yards of driving. I took it to two mechanics (one a Jepp specialist) who looked at my brakes and both say my brakes are in excellent condition. It normally happens early morning after the car has not been driven the whole night, or if I leave it standing for a while and then drive it. I took the car for a wash and noticed it when the car was wet. My simple brain seems to think it is metal on metal, but I am not sure. Any suggestions?

How many miles on the clock?
How about squeaks when going over bumps?
Still could be a brake issue or some dry suspension bushing under stress while turning.

Same issue here. I noticed it at low speeds and i cant figure out if it has to do with wetness (like in the AM or after a carwash). Sometimes after carwashes it seems to go away, other times it makes no difference.

The sound is similar to a squeaking as the wheels spin. The grinding, rubbing, squeak, whatever we're calling it almost sounds as if a metal part (rotor?) is warped and every time it spins it's making contact and grinding on something. Could it be caused by hard braking, or hard braking after being cold or wet?

Noticeably the problem does not occur when braking. Applying the brakes actually makes the squeaking stop.

Any clues? All the mechanics I've asked tell me the same thing: your rotors are great, you have new brake pads. If its "squeaking" that only means it's brake dust.
But it's clearly not an issue that seems triggered by dust.... I've also made sure they replaced the pads with the higher quality ceramic.

2017 WK2 90k this week.

Looks and drives like new so would like to maintain that appearance and rolling up with squeeky wheels is somewhat embarassing - esp since it seems to happen randomly.

A bad wheel bearing typically but not always would have more of a grinding/humming sound rather than a squeaking sound.
The squeaking wheel sounds described in this thread can only be a few things.
-worn, contaminated or distorted pads
-glazed pads or rotors
-high metallic pads
-possibly bad caliper anti rattle hardware
-sticking calipers maybe caused by dry or no lube on the guide pins
-sticking caliper piston
-rock or other metallic debris embedded in the pads
-rock or other debri stick somewhere in the brake system
-over night temporary squeaks with rust on the rotor
-loose lug nuts
-excessive brake dust mostly with drum brakes though
-could be a bad U-joint depending on the vehicle
-Lastly might not even be a brake issue instead a squeaky bad bushing

Most mechanics typically raise the vehicle and eye ball the brakes.
Some of the above causes need a more thorough inspection by removing the caliper for a diagnosis.
