Whats up guys. I recently traded my 05 JGC for a 2012 mineral gray limited with chrome out the you know what.

I'm a fan of color matching stuffs. Been lurking around for about a week looking for info.

I have a question regarding the door spears. Are they just held by double sided tape? I read somewhere that they are. I want to take mine off and just wanted to make sure.

I'm also thinking about ordering the mineral gray grille and rear brow from just for jeeps.

Yup they are. Just grab an end and pull away :)

I used to have a 2012 Mineral Gray Overland and removed those. Looks much better without them!!! Also, you can add the grand Cherokee letters to the side if you like the '14+ look.

I used a heat gun to warm up each chrome strip 6 inch sections at a time and then ran fishing line behind the trim in a "sawing" motion to cut right through it. Don't worry! You will NOT scratch the paint with fishing line. You'll still need to remove the remaining adhesive on the door which is the hardest part of the whole process. Takes about 15-20 minutes per side if you take your time. I highly recommend the look of the Grand Cherokee lettering instead of the chrome strips.

I seond the fishing line to remove the trim like said above. Then take some WD-40 and spray it on the remaining tape, let it sit in, and then peel off. Made it much easier than heat or anything else I tried to remove the tape.

Yeah I'll be using fishing line to remove them. I used it once when I had my 04 Ram 1500. I debadged it.

I have read that people also use goof off? so wd-40 works too huh. I have also heard of people using rubbing compound.

On another note, I ordered the color matched grille and rear brow. Should be getting them tomorrow. :)

So I did this mod a few days ago: Used only fishing line to swipe off the all of the emblems on the my Jeep. I know many say to use a heat gun, but it's 95* in Texas and 10lb fishing line ($1 from Wal-Mart) worked fantastic. No issues at all, but it did snap a few times - might want to try 15-20lbs if you want to avoid the snapping, but it's no big deal at all, it was like a 200ft roll.

For the extra adhesive left, I literally took the pad of my thumb and rolled the big chunks right off. Was mildly rough on the finger tips, just due to the sheer volume of all the lettering  . For the tiny parts/spots, I just used some bug and tar remover. Let sit for 1-2 minutes and it literally wiped 90% of it off on one sweep.

Whole thing took me under 90 minutes to remove the "Limited" "4x4" "Grand Cherokee" side molding x2, Rear and Front "Jeep" Emblems, to peel all the glue/clean it up, and attach the gloss black front/rear "Jeep" logos. Hardest one was the Rear emblem. Used some fishing line to snake behind it and than used a plastic trim tool to very slowly pry back, saw, pry back, etc.

Think it came out pretty well.

I tried goo gone and it really didnt do much for me. It helped when there were tiny amounts left, but the tape is really thick at first. Give WD-40 a try and you wont be disappointed. It made it sooo easy to remove.

I have a color matched grill and was looking to do the rear brow next. Let me know how that goes for you install wise and pictures would be great.

Yeah I'll give them both a try. I need to remove the "limited" in the rear too. I'm also thinking about taking off the chrome "jeep" on the hood and maybe replace it with a mineral gray one unless I like it without it. Don't know yet.

I'll definitely post some pics.

I'm in the same boat ... I want to get a black out hood emblem and maybe Grand Cherokee on the sides, but it looks really clean with nothing there.

Haha at least you admit to it and what's on the inside So good think I have the overland.

As for lettering. I prefer the 14 altitude lettering. But that's just my opinion on it.

My black jeep and grand cherokee badges will be in today, but I've been looking at the clean sides and I'm not sure what I want to do yet.

The hood Jeep emblem will be a definite swap, but the doors... I'm on the fence. Going to rig them up soon and see how it looks.

the only reason i might not do it is just because it will be the same color and not very noticable. plus i dont like when i have to clean in between letters... ocd sucks lol

i'm more on the fence about the hood "jeep"

i swapped my rear "brow" to the color matching one and the "jeep" is also colored and up close it looks good, but from a distance it just all blends...

so i may just keep it naked.

might drop a red hemi badge on the front lower grille.

I put the badges on and even though its the same color, I think it adds a nice subtle touch on both the hood and the doors. Pictures dont do it justice, but in person I like it a lot.

Did you ever think of doing black instead of color matching? I dont know if you have other black pieces on your car, but it's just a thought.

I have thought about doing them in black. Well at least the door ones. It would either be the chrome or black because I like the look of the new letters that are more square than round. The gray ones are the rounder kind.

The hood one, I think I may just delete it.

The only black pieces I have are the grille inserts, wheel trim and bumper trim. I think either will look good. I'll have to see.
