Ticking/clicking noise - gears? 2015 Grand Cherokee [SOLVED]

Hey all,

My 2015 GC Limited has recently started making a ‘ticking/clicking’ noise when selecting gears on the 8sp auto.

This happens when the vehicle is not in motion, i.e. sitting on the drive way.

Move the shifter from park to reverse, to drive to park etc doesn’t matter ...consistent clicking noise that runs for about 3- 5 seconds and pretty loud. Sounds not great and only just started.

Car has done around 60k and was recently serviced.

I’ve got a video - need to figure out how to post 😂

Thought i would see if shifting to 4wd-low would change/reset it... 4wd-low wouldn't activate... nothing, nada! no lights when pushing the button, no dash warning etc..
When and pulled fuses etc.. put them back.

Got back in the car... 4wd-low engaged without a problem. Put it back into normal driving mode, ticking stopped. Took it for a drive and it was acting normally again.

Will monitor over next few days...

@CHeYeNNe71 ... well good news!!

Problem solved!(y)

I phoned one workshop, without even looking he said it would need a new transmission eye roll

Went to a local transmission specialist, he drove it, had a listen, diagnosed it within 5 minutes. Ordered the part and fitted it which fixed it immediately... all within 24 hours and few hundred $.

Turns out it was the transmission control module that failed. Apparently he had 3 over the past few months.

I actually ordered two, the second one finally came. I ordered the new one from OEM Dodge, Chrysler & Jeep Parts Catalog Online | OEM MOPAR Parts. It was delayed so I ordered one from Ebay as well. The one from Ebay might be used so I plan to keep the new on, just in case it is needed.
Thank you for providing the link. May you please also provide the part number? Not sure I found the correct one.
Transfer Case Control Module - Mopar (68395074AA)
or this one below?
Transfer Case Control Module - Mopar (5150733AE)

Wonder how these transfer case control modules can fix the ticking noise?

I've got the tc tick, ordered a module and although it solved the binding on the front on full lock, it also threw an evic message and codes. The tick is still present. I went back to my old module... Unfortunately the shop I bought it from the US have been extremely unhelpful in getting it sorted. Wasted a few hundred bucks...

resurrecting this thread as the ticking continues and is starting to wind me up. It is doing on and off load (when moving), when selecting D or R, and when turning ignition on. Interestingly, it doesn't do it in Low at all. I thought it might be the drive shaft, and it is possible it might be some of the time, but clearly not before the engine has started.

Any ideas. At this rate I will retire the old girl as soon as I can get my hands on the new landcruiser...

Hi, how are you? Were you able to solve your problem? What was wrong that was causing the noise?

What fuses did you pull? Mines doing the same exact thing and they told me it was the transfer case so we replaced that and it’s still doing it. $1500 later and not fixed
