***NOTE: The service bulletin indicates this applies to MY 2015 only***

It appears that almost a month ago a new Uconnect release came out and I haven't seen any posts about it. Looks like it's not being installed automatically OTA, though I don't know if that's temporary or not.

I found the service bulletin for it w/ a changelog here:

http://www.hellcat.org/attachments/17-43-01-pdf.412449/

Which fixes my main beef - that incoming calls don't show your contact name, only phone number. Finally!!! I haven't installed it yet though I have confirmed it's available and downloaded it using my VIN on the uconnect page. I would LOVE to see album art via bluetooth connections but I'm not getting my hopes up. Also appears to have fixed the non-functional Via APPS if anyone was missing them.

Enjoy!

unfertunutly it is not for US:

"NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA (Canada and Mexico only)."

Maybe coming to US next? dunno what installing the CAN/MX version on a US vehicle in the interim will do tho....

I hear ya and I certainly have little faith in FCA's ability to be consistent/accurate in these situations. My 15 VIN gives me this. My concern would be that the version number structure for the NAFTA version is out of step with the US version. I would be on guard for unwanted consequences because of this. My point being that the NAFTA version is certainly not the very next iteration in the US file version so who nows what happens after the update/overwrite....if you proceed I would have your current version on USB to revert in the event it gets ugly/worse...let us know how it works out...I am not the guinea pig type on these matters....:D

I'm going to install it tonight, so I'll be the guinea pig :)

I googled the bulletin # and found a link to this Cherokee forum thread. There are some that have installed it. See the last 2 pages of this thread:

8.4" Uconnect Nav Unit Firmware Update Available Now... - Page 113 - 2014+ Jeep Cherokee Forums

I do see half the posters discussing it are from Canada but there are at least a couple of installs in the US that didn't report any problems. Besides if something goes of the rails it's on Jeep to fix it for me since they said it's available for my VIN...

good luck...be aware tho, this is a TSB and they (and their consequences) are only free during 3/36 bump to bump warranty period...u still within?, if not your dealer will charge u labor/diagostics/etc. if you have to take it to them to deal with it...

Here we go again. The last update turned in to a bit of a cluster ****. Jeep Cares had to get the update to early MY '14 owners. I bet we go through the same thing this time. And just in time for the beginning of the summer travel season.

I hate to say it, but I feel you are right jacko. I never got the OTA and chose to install via usb. Install went smooth except the backup camera gamma issue. A reset fixed that. Nav update install via USB went fine as well. I'm betting this next OTA...if us 14 model year folks even see it, will leave some scorched earth behind.

I installed this 17.43.01 update in my US 2017 GC Summit as my VIN showed it as available. I downloaded and put on a USB stick .. My radio recognized it as an update from the previously installed 17.11.07 and updated flawlessly keeping all settings. No issues found ... have not tested the caller id yet to see if it is fixed.

That’s great news. Curious if it will work for early MY14s, unlike the 17.11.07 debacle.

Question for you—in the instructions for this update, it actually shows that the update needs to be run twice. Granted, the starting point for the example that they show was crazy old 12.39.4, but after the “1st” install, it only jumps to 16.33.29 and then you actually have to run the update again to reach 17.43.01.

Assuming you started at 17.11.07, did it upgrade directly to 17.43.01 ?

Of note, the site says this update was released for my MY14 under service bulletin: 08-068-18 ...go figure...the same TSB for Canada and Mexico, just a different release date—3/6/2018. Must just be an add-on to the same MY TSB.

I’ll install tonight or tomorrow.

Wonder what will happen if this update is pushed to an early model (April '13 build) '14 WK2. I'm taking a little trip this weekend, and won't have a chance to do it until next week. Maybe someone with an early build will try it by then.

Also glad it's being done via download and usb instead of over the air. Hope they keep it that way.

Odd thing happened tonight on my MY14 running 17.43.01. While driving with NAV, I started some music via Bluetooth from my iPhone. The media display wasn’t showing any info, so I figured I’d plug in USB cable and try to switch to USB media source. The radio locked up, touchscreen unresponsive, but music still playing. I’ve never had my head unit lock up, ever. Tried a soft reset, after booting, touched Media, locked up again. Tried several more soft resets, 9 out of 10 it either remained locked up or blue screened. Stopped for gas, turned off Jeep, started back up and everything appears normal since then, including Media showing source information. Will keep an eye on this.

I had this update available as well for my 2015. It seems to have removed the pandora app that I used with via mobile. It was pretty unreliable, most of the time I had to toggle the via mobile enable on the unconnect app to get it to work so it wasn't worth the effort. I thought it sounded better though than streaming directly from the phone. I don't really see any other differences, but I just installed it this morning.

Edit: Pandora app is back after a restart of the car after a few hours.

November 2014 built MY2015 Limited with the 8.4AN (US domestic). Installed this yesterday. Took 23 minutes, not including the time I took to check all the settings after. I idled the engine in my driveway during the whole update and worked from a laptop while I waited in the vehicle. Only lost my 24hr time format setting, but that happens on every update.

First impression is that the touch responsiveness is much improved. Most of the lag is gone after you tap an item on the screen.

Another improvement I noticed is that when you first set a destination on the nav, it used to show the "as the crow flies" distance to the destination on the initial route calculation, which messed up time/fuel planning for me on more than one occasion. Now, it shows the actual route distance.

Just did the update on mine. Haven't driven yet but we'll report by experience.

What version were you guys with the early 14 builds starting from? It failed today when I tried to install the updated version on my early 2014 Overland. It gave me the exact same incompatibility message as the last version did. FCA was never able to help me fix the last one. They just stopped responding.
