I do mostly city driving and I'm averaging between 10-12 mpg on my wk2 5.7. What kind of mileage where u getting on your v6 that was so terrible ? What will u be towing ? Unless u plan to tow, I don't think the 5.7 is worth it for extra oomph. For every 100 votes for the v8 u will prolly have 100 votes for the v6. Seems like people on this forum are pretty torn. There is plenty of threads on here that debate v6 vs v8 if u need more info.

 

I think this is true for the WK2, but there is a much bigger difference between the 3.7 and the 4.7 or 5.7 for the WK1 in terms of power but not that much difference in terms of MPG.

 

Im planning on towing uhaul trailers in the next couple years while i move for the military. Not much, just a bed, small furniture, and my motorcycle. The bigger stuff I'll use a uhaul truck.

And that that's much less than what Edmunds and the other car rating companies say, but I'm sure they are going under ideal conditions, driving styles, and giving it the benefit of the doubt quite a bit. It pays to get the scoop from real drivers

If you were looking at the 3.6 the decision would be more clear cut (in terms of fuel economy) but for the years you mentioned you'd be looking at the 3.7L. The consensus is that the mileage is pretty awful for that engine. I don't get anywhere near the EPA estimates in mine.

 

V-6 is what you need...
V-8 is what you want : >)

Hey man, sucks about your jeep... Seems you had it all figured out and were going to get that thing running real well. Anyway, since your going to be down south in a warmer climate you will immediately get better fuel economy. When i lived in the northeast I couldn't do better than 17 on the highway in the winter... Now I am getting 19.5.... At 65-70 mph. Doing 60-63 mph I get 20-20.5... And this is with winter tires that still have about 75% tread. I think I could be 21.5 if I had touring tires. Stop and go traffic I get 12-14. If you get the hemi you can drive it like you stole it, or milk the throttle for better fuel economy. Granted you milk a 3.7L you will get slightly better fuel economy.

I pulled a 12 ft enclosed trailer with all my belongings 3000 miles and was sure glad I had the extra power and weight of the hemi. A 4.7 is also a good engine, my brother had a 2002 HO overland and routinely could get 21-22 on the highway doing 70... I think the wk 4.7s don't do quite as well... Maybe they are heavier and less aerodynamic.

I'd find a v8 and undercut the dealer price siting high gas prices and how it is a gas guzzler.... And this time make them prove they have put new o2 sensors in if it has more than 75k miles

 

How much to you already pay for cable, cell phone etc. It is all about entertainment, you don't need a Jeep at all, you could get by with a smartcar or a bike, if you can afford the Hemi why get a Jeep without it ?

 

I like the V8s, but the V6 with the cold air intake system gives me a little more uf and real good MPG on highway. 290HP can go up to 310 HP with a little help:lol:

 

There are those that have the HEMI and those that wish they had the HEMI. Everyone else is lying.

 

Hemi is the only way to go, and with some useful upgrades it is far better than stock, with plenty of low end torque on tap.

 

Hi, im looking at changing my 3.0ltr crd for a 5.7 hemi, only due to driving 4000 miles a year, and the sound is so nice, also in the uk we can get LPG fitted and make it more economical than the diesel in the long run, really its all about economy or exhaust noise for me, and noise comes first :lol:.

 

it`s all to what you want. I like the power of the 5.7L, but the mileage of the 3.6L. So I stick to the 3.6L just incase of $5 gas prices.

 

No such thing as 3.6 in a WK, we have a 3.7 but because of the weight of the GC the difference between the MPG in the V6 and V8 is so minimal, if your basing your purchase on MPG, you shouldn't be buying a GC.

If I can find a good deal on a 4.7 I'll be getting rid of the v6. I dont need a Hemi.

Your not going to see a difference in MPG between the 4.7 and the HEMI. I can avg as high as 19 HYW, lifted and running 265/70/17.

 

I owned a 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 3.7 V6 prior to my 2008 Limited with 5.7. I pretty much prefer the 5.7 V8 over the V6 anyday. As far as I am concerned, I do not find much difference in MPGs since I drive heavy footed. I would get the V8 any day over the V6, but again that is just me!! Also, the V6 was somewhat sluggish due to the weight of the vehicle...

 

It looks like the v-6 is taking a beating tonight have fun guys lol.

 

I put a cold air intake on mine 3.6L V6 Grand cherokee Laredo and it help. I`m not heavy on the gas. I went from 22MPG up to 25MPG on highway at 72MPH just testing. works find for me. And mine is AWD.

 

^but again bluemarble we are talking about a v6 vs a V8 in a WK. You have 3.6 in a wk2 which is an entirely different engine in an entirely different vehicle. The two just can't be compared.

 

5.7l V8 all the way, or you will regret it.

 

My wife gets an average of 13-14mpg city on the 5.7
The 4.7 wj gets 17mpg city

 

If you're getting a gasser, definitely get the Hemi or a 2008+ 4.7 IMO.

And let's just clear this up for the last time:
WK (2005-2010) V6 = 3.7
WK2 (2011+) V6 = 3.6 Pentastar.

Completely different engines in completely different vehicles.

I have an 06 4.7 and get around 12-14 in city and 17-19 on highway. I honestly could not imagine driving the 3.7. I feel like the 4.7 barely gets this boat going. I love the way it drives and would only go bigger if If I could. If I could go back to last year when I bought it, I'd go with the HEMI. Granted I'm very happy with my 4.7

 

I just baught a 4.7L, I also have a 3.7L... Depending on what you plan on modding is key. My 3.7L with lift and tires, intake, powerwire, ect gets 12mpg. On my first ride home with my 4.7 I averaged 19mpg. There's also a nice rumble under the hood and shes a bit more torque happy. The 3.7L is a marketing scheme IMO, the 4.7 performs just as well in the MPG area. As my expirence goes.. way better.
