Are there any aftermarket pre-cut vinyl coverings available for the center console trim?

The chance that anything like that is available...yet...is slim. It will take time for the aftermarket to catch up to an entirely new vehicle.

 

Jeep should do a recall on the black trim. I touched the trim with my finger tip, not my finger nail and it looks like I took brillo to the finish. This is unbelievable, how can they sell a vehicle like this? I used war wax to lesson the mess. 72K what a mess.

 

I looked at a brand new delivery fresh off the truck car that had just had the PDI done on it at a dealer in Lake Havasu City, Az. The touch screen and console were covered in dust already. The sales person wiped his hand across it to clean it off, whoops! Already scratched! This may be the worst idea Jeep has made in a while. Piano Black in a Jeep? It's a Jeep right?

I found a very good solution to all the scratches on the Black Piano trim. I used Mothers Ceramic Spray Coating. I used it on my exterior and it was too easy. Then I was very upset with the Black trim scratched at the console area. I put this on and rubbed it in good. Gave it 5 minutes nad polished it off, most of the scratches are gone. I bought this on Amazon for ~$17.00. It is well worth the money. I quite happy not seeing that mess. What was Jeep thinking?

 

So this product seems to protect from prints and scratches pretty well? I’m assuming you have to reapply often. I’m waiting on delivery of my WL and I’d like to find a solution for this issue before scratches and the likes get the best of the piano black finishes.

 

Its very easy to put on, I did it again today on my Uconnect screen too. It is excellent. use microfiber as it says in the directions, to apply and remove by buffing. It is simple.

 

This works great keep it in the glove box.

 

How often do you have to apply it? It sounds almost too good to be true. Haha. I really want to make sure the finish is maintained.

 

 

Curious if anyone has run in to additional scratching by applying the Mothers Spray Coating with a microfiber cloth?
I ask because I attempted to clean the dust off mine and the microfiber cloth scratched it pretty heavily. It could've been the cloth itself or the dust, which is why I'd like to hear other experiences. Thanks!

 

I’ve been looking into different scratch removal products / techniques for the piano black trim since taking delivery of my ‘22 Altitude about a month ago. In the meantime, I have been keeping a roll of painters tape in the center console and every few days, I’ll tear off a couple inches or so and stick it to itself and then blot all of the piano black areas and even the Uconnect / instrument cluster screens.

It seems to be the best solution so far. I wish I would’ve thought about it before trying to wipe the dust off with interior plastic cleaner and a microfiber towel. Also, I had my driver and passenger windows tinted about 20% and that helps to not notice all the scratches as well.

 

Good idea! I'll definitely give this a try and I'm due to tint the windows a bit... hopefully that will help. Right now it's glaringly obvious. Thanks for the feedback!

 

Dry microfiber cloth alone seems to work well enough for me. Gets the fingerprints off the display and most of the pollen and dust from everywhere else.

I do see fine scratches everywhere, resigning myself to that reality. I still may explore cutting vinyl overlays w a cricut machine. My phone has a carbon fiber case, that might look good, else simple flat black.

 

I'm beginning to accept it more and more each day, just disappointing. I hadn't thought about an overlay... I'd bet there will be similar options for sale in the near future. We can't be the only ones recognizing the issue. I did find a screen protector for the touchscreen on Amazon.

 

How about a cleaning gel that's sold for detailing to grab dust and anything abrasive before wiping?

I am so disappointed with my 22 Jeep Altitude. This is my 3rd Grand Cherokee and the interior center console it scratched just from wiping it with microfiber towel and my coffee mugs. I have never had a vehicle do this. Also, the paint is so thin on the car that bugs are chipping it. What is Jeep doing. Paying more and getting less. Any suggestions, please help!

 

The Microfiber cloth scratched mine as well. I am so upset with this. Only a month old!

 

PPF is probably the best option. Should hold up for years, more durable than polish/ceramic coating.

 

I'm thinking about installing vinyl film (carbon fiber) to "hide" piano black panels.

 

I just got off the phone with my tint people, Cactus Tint here in Scottsdale to see if they can wrap the console, Rick the owner will call me back, his assistant felt that they could no problem, they would just use the same clear plastic used to protect the painted areas on the front-end...

 

The shape of the interior panels is pretty simple. I'm going to wrap the console myself. Trying to decide between glossy and matte carbon fiber.

 

CapV, did you end up installing the wrap yourself? If so, how did it turn out?

 

I'd go mat black or carbon fiber. I have considered getting a Cricut machine this would be the perfect application. Lots of cut outs that would be difficult to do by hand...like around the dial and avoiding the various display elements.

 

I've got the suede and carbon fiber interior in my 21 scat pack wide body. But because there is no carbon fiber in the new GCSR, I'll go with the clear and still maintain the glossy black look of the piano black. My tint guy said he even has the template for around the shifter knob. I'll let them do it in their shop while I sit in the air conditioned waiting room. Rick said that he is 7 weeks out for appointments...

You got it. I'll just have to figure out how tp post pics. I'm still about 2 weeks out on a GCSR with the hemi with my name on it...

 

From what I've seen in other posts, the PPF film isn't quite as glossy, has a little bit of an orange peel to it, but it's very solid protection. I haven't tried the new Meguiar's ceramic stuff, but that wounds like the option if you're otherwise gentle with those areas and don't mind monthly or quarterly reapplication. For me, with kids, wife, dog, kid's friends... PPF is probably more advisable.

I seriously doubt there will be a change for that...

I'm not totally sure about the screens. I might do normal XPEL Ultimate with those. I know when my iPhone screen I prefer the non-finger print/matte screen protectors but it does affect the resolution. Not sure how that looks with the screens. Might be worth it to repel fingerprints.

Now, if they can just open the order banks for the 2023 4xe!

Has anyone ordered this kit and installed it? i have a wrapper de-chroming the floating roofline part - and he was going to look at just black gloss for the interior parts.

But i would prefer buying a precut kit and then have him install...

 

The gloss black all over the interior of the GC is just terrible design and form over function prevailed as part of bad decision making and whoever pushed for that should be fired. I hated it as I contemplated the purchase and a month into it still don’t like it. That being said, I wasn’t going to let something that trivial drive my purchase decision but it was damn close to a deal breaker. I had Xpel installed w about 100 miles on it. I skipped the touch screen itself as I don’t want to provide any excuses should it fail sometime during my 8 year / 125 warranty.
