I doubt they will but I have no problem if they kill the JGC SRT as we'll instantly own a collectors car. I reckon it's already one of the most amazing muscle cars out there and will live on in car history as such.

I don't want the Jeep srt killed off.....that crazy imho. I don't want a collectors vehicle....i want the latest, greatest...most technological bad ass suv on the planet with the biggest hemi they can cram in it. I don't want no stinkin' old....collectors vehicle.

Killed off or not, the Jeep SRT will be a icon muscle SUV and perhaps one day a collector's. Inevitably, given Fiat Chryslers long term business plan, i cannot see production continuing and doubt we will see a gen3........ i really really hope i am wrong.

I would never have envisaged that one day, perhaps the Jeep SRT will be no longer, HELL I LOVE THIS BEAST and have every intention of seeing a gen3 or hellcat residing in my garage...........lets hope that eventuates.

Amen Scott!

The Jeep SRT is the ultimate "imported from Detroit" statement to all the naysayers who say America can't compete with the Germans! At fraction of the price no less! I will buy the refresh in 2016 and then the gen3 when(not if) if comes out.

If they want to be the leader in the segment, they have to execute on quality, so it can only get better

The only question remaining is, what will the refresh entail for the 2016 Grand Cherokee SRT?
Can you please go into a little more detail on this Milous? This is throwing up a flag for me.

Here is what we know from previous generations:

WK SRT - debuted in 2006, refreshed in 2008, ended in 2010.

WK2 SRT - debuted in 2012, refreshed in 2014, will end in 2016.

The WK SRT did not receive a refresh in 2010, only in 2008. Being that you are hinting at a refresh in 2016 is leading me to believe it might be a grand finale refresh before it is gone for good.

One more question.... are you planning on buying a 2016??

It's extremely rare to see any sort of notable refresh for the last model year of a vehicle. The only time I recall this happening for the Grand Cherokee was for the 2004 model year, last of the WJ's. It was somewhat minor, a tweak to the front fascia, grille and foglamps.

The 2016 model year will represent the 75th Anniversary of Jeep. All Grand Cherokees models will be refreshed, which was not in the plans until recently. This was due in part to the current generation being extended by one model year, with the new 4th gen WL launching as a 2018 model instead of a 2017. It's the first time that a GC generation will run 7 model years, all prior were for 6.

Being that these changes are all so new, it will take some time to re-gather information on the future plans and changes for the Jeep SRT. As we speak, the 2015 and 2016 models are listed on future launch schedules. As long as sales remain strong through the extended 2015 model year, and into the 2016 model year, there's a good chance we will see a 2017 model. Beyond that, no idea, those plans I'm sure are still being worked on. Right now the Jeep SRT is a cash cow for Chrysler, no way are they going to pull it while sales and demand are so high.

While the plan is to have all SRT vehicles eventually under the Dodge brand, that doesn't rule out using "SRT" engines ("Powered By SRT") in non-Dodge vehicles. The Wagoneer was one example of a non-SRT vehicle scheduled to get the 6.4 engine, but now that the Wagoneer has been delayed a couple years, don't know if it will still get the 6.4 or perhaps a new variant.

As much as I would like one, considering what the price will be by then, don't think I could pull it off financially.

Thanks for the clarification Milous. I had not heard that the WK2 was extended another year.

Somehow the "powered by SRT" just cheapens it for me. I guess to me that makes it feel like an afterthought and not a true SRT vehicle.

I couldn't agree more, and I think SRT is making a big mistake. The Jeep has stood along with (an in some cases "above") the rest of the SRT lineup for what will be the 10th model year this summer. It has brought a LOT of attention to the SRT brand over the years. The fact that is has been, and currently is the most popular SRT vehicle speaks for itself.

Dodge is even bringing the "Powered by SRT" into their own lineup - in a couple months they will launching two Challenger R/T models with the 6.4L engine. Another mistake IMO, the 6.4 should have been kept exclusively for the SRT models.

I agree. When I heard that last month I thought it was strange. The only reasoning I saw was that the new Hellcat would be the SRT engine which free'd up the 6.4L for mass production use.

The RAM got the 6.4L this year as well, although modified for towing.

And I am with you on the price. At $40K the SRT was a no brainer. Now at $73K, it is getting harder to come to terms and let loose of that amount of money.

Truly baffling. But there will still be non-Hellcat SRT Challengers with the 6.4, at least for model year 2015.

For me, that's ok, since it's a "non-racing" application and therefore does not dilute the SRT image/brand.

I paid $44k for my '08, and if I were to trade-in for a current model I'd be looking at a whopping difference of almost $50k - a very tough pill to swallow on my budget! Even if I gave up food entirely (and maybe a little beer), and all outside activities, I still don't think I could pull it off lol.

I saw that the 6.4L was going to be offered in the Challenger R/T this year but have not heard anything about an SRT version of the Challenger or Charger for 2015. Are they holding off for a year? The 2015 was a refresh wasn't it? Not a new redesign. Am I wrong?

Again, I was assuming they would be announcing the new Baracuda with the Hellcat as the SRT variant but this morning have read that the Baracuda name will not be revived.

Yes, 2015 Challenger was a major refresh. They have not officially announced any of the 2015 SRT models (but will be doing so soon). The 2015 Challenger 6.4 SRT is on the launch schedule, I'd have to check on the Charger SRT 6.4 variant, Charger SRT won't launch until ~ January.

That makes even less sense now. You are right. They are making a huge mistake. The beauty of the SRT was not only the larger engine, it was that the whole car was modified around the engine. They have better brakes and suspension and sportier designs.

So Dodge is going to let people buy an R/T with notoriously shitty Dodge brakes and an added 100HP for less money than an SRT. An homage to the 70's I guess. All go, no stop, and who needs to go around corners! :)

Milous and Hound, you two are having a great forum discussion!. It is disappointing to see that the SRT brand is heading in this direction.

It should be kept as a stand alone performance arm of all that falls under the Chrysler umbrella.
