They should replace the dash under warranty. Yours isn't the first.

It's definitely not the first. I have a 2015 that has "wrinkles" around the instrument cluster. I've elected to hold off on a replacement until later as basically the entire dash has to come out (it's a major disassembly process). My dealer is going to take care of it when I decide I have enough miles to not call it "new" anymore

 

yep my 2012 bubbled in the same area and was only just replaced last oct

 

How did you get it replaced?

 

I'm curious what the problem was and why it wasn't addressed since its been happening since 2012. Not enough adhesive maybe?? I just would have thought that with such an expensive and time consuming repair the problem would have been eliminated.

As an update to my original post, I contacted the dealer and took it in and they took pictures of the problem and got the replacement/repair approved by Jeep. I asked the service person (not sure if it was the service manager) about getting a loaner vehicle. He right off the bat said no, unless I had purchased a certain extended warranty that covered loaner vehicles. I was a bit taken back by this because I haven't even made my first payment yet and there is already something wrong with the vehicle. I told him that this is my 3rd brand new Jeep I've purchased since 2000 and I am a loyal customer. That didn't seem to phase him. So, I tell him to order the new dash and I'll work it out with management when its time to bring my car in (he said 2 weeks to get the new dash). A few days later I get a call from the sales person that sold me the vehicle on another unrelated matter and I told him about the repair. I told him about them refusing to give me a loaner vehicle and that I was going to contact Jeep about it. Before I could get the words out of my mouth he said not to worry that I would have a loaner vehicle and whoever told me otherwise was wrong. Some good news I guess....

 

I had the same problem on my 2011 WK2 3 separate times and on my 2012 once. They have to replace the whole dash - which is a major job and on my last car they did all sorts of other damage in the process. I see you're in Tampa - I'm in Fort Lauderdale - wondering if this is a climate issue. I'm about to pick up a 2015 Tahoe LTZ and I made sure it did not have real leather dash after these issues on my Jeep.

 

I purchased a CPOV 2011 GC Overland. 2 weeks after buying it the dash started coming apart bad. After two weeks of fighting them they decided to repair it and are giving me a loaner vehicle. They are contacting me Monday to schedule the apt. They really didn't want to repair it, even with the bumper to bumper warranty. Just keep fighting them.

I have a 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland pkg and the passenger side of my dash is becoming unglued and bubbly. Now the plastic trim piece for the defrost vent is coming up. I have taken it to several Auto/Trim repair shops and told that they will not touch it and to contact Jeep to see if there is a recall or for restitution on this. I use my Jeep for business and have customers in it everyday so I want it to look nice. Right now Jeep is getting some pretty negative advertisement from mine! I took it to the dealership but since it's out of warranty they can't do anything but told me they replace several every month! Anyone else with this problem have advice???

 

I would suggest that anyone with this problem that still has the warranty to fight like hell to get it fixed.

Mine (2012 GC Overland) started while under warranty but it was not really that bad. Now that I have 65k it is really, really, really bad. And of course I am outside the warranty period and they will not touch it.

I was considering getting a new diesel, however with this kind of quality and support I will most likely not even touch another Jeep.

There was a question on climate. This car has been garaged and lives in dry Colorado.

Just had mine replaced under warranty. I have a 2012 with 25,000 miles. Only have 2 months left on the 3 year warranty.

 

Unfortunately I am having to bump my thread I started a little over a year ago because, guess what, my 2nd dash is coming unglued again! About a year and a half after posting this thread my new dash is bubbling near the instrument cluster and in the back where the vents are. The metallic paint is also chipping off my e-shifter. This really sucks for a 50k Jeep. So far I am very disappointed with how many times I am having to take this Jeep in to get various things fix. It makes me scared of what will happen once its out of warranty. Its a 2014 but only have 15k on it. My only thought is that since I live in Florida maybe it would help save the dash if I use one of those window reflector things on the dash. With all the black interior the heat is horrible in Florida.

 

I put the window reflector thing outside the windscreen. Makes a massive difference here in Western Australia's summer heat.

I have had the same problem. I first leased a 2011 Overland (first year of that style I believe) and after 2 years the leather was coming unglued. My son purchased the car after the lease was over and the problem only got worse. He elected not to pay about $2500 to replace the dash but had it worked on elsewhere and it turned out poorly.
I now have a leased 2014 Overland and in less than two years of ownership I am having the same problem. I took it to my local dealer to look at and they have refused to fix the issue (59000 miles) and suggested replacing the dash at my expense. This vehicle is parked in a garage every evening and most days on the weekend. Based on what I see in the forum, this is an ongoing problem with the Overland model and it has been happening for years. Can something other than the complete replacement of the dashboard be done?

 

my 2014 GC summit dash is failing and coming unglued also, mine is 3.5 years old and 38k miles so I am out of the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. I purchased the extended lifetime maxcare warranty and I'm aware things like dashboards are not covered with maxcare

It sounds like people are not having much luck getting these dash issues covered if you are outside of the 3/36 warranty. I get that its outside of the warranty but dashes shouldn't fail on cars this young. my last two cars sat in the same environment for 10 years each and dashes looked just fine, dashes just don't fail like they did back in the 70s manufactures concurred that years ago except on Chrysler products I guess.

Mine is failing in the same place behind the cluster as the OP in post #1.. its also got these wavy lines through out the middle of it.

I may try to inject some adhesive in the lifting areas and see what I can do with it. problem is it will likely continue to get worse. I'm not to thrilled with the thought of paying $2500 for a replacement when people are experiencing failures of the replacements also. Not to mention all the collateral damage that will occur with the precision that these jeep dealers operate.

I do like this jeep a lot but it just seems to be one thing after another. failed seat heater last week busted shock belching fluid the week before. its been about 25 dealer trips in the last 3.5 years. I wanted to keep this jeep 10 years as I normally do to cars I own but I may have to throw in the towel here at some point. I know nothing lasts for ever and though I do like the jeep as I said I'm just coming to the sad conclusion I don't think they are built very well and may not one to keep long term.

 

Add us to the list. My wife's '14 GCSRT has a wrinkle in the driver corner by the vent and its pulling up around the same spot as the original poster. Not to mention the carbon on the passenger door.... Starting to wonder if we made the right purchase... Thanks FCA...!!!

 

Obviously the leather coming loose on the dash is a big problem that has not been corrected since they first released this model in 2011. May not be a safety issue but one would think that Jeep would offer a solution. Hard to believe that it would be necessary to completely replace the dash (just happen again a year later) Can they not repair these dash issues injecting some kind of glue. No problems for the Laredo as the dash does not have the leather cover. Spend more money for the upgraded Overland/Summit/SRT and have all these issues with no cure is not right!

 

I was going to try and glue down where mine is lifting but my concern is that it is going to get worse rapidly and gluing one area becomes pointless.

if its not safety they pretty much tell you to pound sand after the 3/36. looking at some of these pictures as bad as they are you could say it was safety because if you opened your window the huge flap of leather dash could fly up in your face and block your vision lol.

 

There's no way I'd give Jeep money to put the same rubbish in again. Years ago I had a dash-pad vacuum recovered... I can't see any reason they couldn't use leather rather than vinyl. Anyway, this is the approach I'd take if faced with an unbearable looking dash and no warranty support.

I have 2014 and this happened to me outside of the warranty. I contacted Jeep and they covered the replacement (around 2k) for me.

 

How badly was your coming unglued. I have thought about going in but thought i should wait for it to get worse. Did you contact dealer or corporate.

 

I have not had this issue with my 11 Overland, but I have seen it.

A colleague of mine left the windows open over night, and the moisture from the overnight caused his dash to ...not only bubble and loose adhesion... but wrinkle like an accordion.

We chatted a little bit, and since we are both into car repairs, and are engineers - we came up with a plan (the dealer wouldn't touch it... out of warranty).

His windshield was cracked. It needed to be replaced. On the day that he chose to replace the windshield - he chose a very warm, sunny day and got started early in the morning. The windshield place replacement place did not have issue with him working in the parking lot: and they pulled the 'old' windshield.

He brought a supply of automotive grade contact cement; a supply of trim knives (that look like a putty knife, but made of plastic) and a hair dryer. Working from the center console toward the front of the car: he applied contact cement and PULLED the leather back into place slowly. When he finished the job, he had the windshield company put the new glass in place, and he called it a day. The results: it looked MUCH better, but not perfect.

 

:slapfight:My 2011 GC Summit is looking like it has a pile of rags on the dash. It gets worse by the day, and with 24,000 miles a garage baby, there is no excuse for quality like this on a vehicle costing over $50K. Called Jeep Customer Care and they could care less. Dealership has tried to get it fixed to no avail.
I don't feel like paying the dealership $2,400 to replace the dash and only hope for the best with a new like type replacement part which appears others are having repeat problems.
Anyone finding an upholstery shop anywhere US that can repair these, please let me know.

 

My 15 was replaced due to various issues. Dealer scratched up pretty much every dash panel I have replacing it and the fit & finish is worse than it was. On top of that, the replacement leather had a few small issues. So you either get a crappy leather dash or a scratched up one.

 

See this is what concerns me about this defective dash issue. pay 3k to get it fixed and they tear up the rest of the inside replacing it and then have the replacement you paid 3k for start to fail 2 years later as people have reported.

I think there are two things going on here one is cheap substandard glue and the other is the leather is shrinking and forcefully pulling away. My dash on my 2014 has areas the leather is lifting and when I first noticed this a few months ago I went and bought some leather conditioner and put it on ( even though the manual says the leather needs no conditioner) Since I have done that I have noticed that the lifting areas seem to be less taunt. previous to the conditioner when I pressed on the lifting areas they would pop right back up but the conditioner seems to have softened it or loosened it a little and now I have pressed the areas and they have seemed to restick and have held for past few weeks anyway and not poped backup. just a theory that the conditioner may help keep the leather from shrinking as much and forcefully pulling away. I know the leather is supposed to be coated and all this crap but it does absorb the conditioner and seems to be helping to lessen shrinkage regardless of what the idiot jeep manual says about being coated. I'm going to continue to put this conditioner on quarterly and cross fingers.

2014 Overland here and I am having the same issue. Dealer told me to get lost today and I called Jeep and pretty much got a sorry we cannot help you either. How is this even a thing. I only have 43k mile on the damn thing. I traded in my wrangler for this nightmare.

 

2014 JGC Overland. Glue is coming loose near the defrost vent trim piece. We live in Texas. I haven't called the dealer yet. I have some kind of premium warranty but I'm not assuming they will cover this, and as other have pointed out, do the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to having it replaced?

 

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland that I fell in love with when I first saw it, but oh how I regret buying it. My dashboard lasted about fifty-eight months and the leather is tearing at the seams and becoming detached from the sub-dashboard. Jeep,of course, is saying it's an "environmental issue" and won't do anything about it. I am thinking about having Safelite come, pull the windshield and then try to inject a new adhesive into the space and press it back down. I absolutely refuse to pay for a new dashboard ,since it's obvious that the adhesive Jeep used is defective and there are no assurances a new dashboard will be any better. I own a 1998 Ford Explorer with full leather interior and I have done nothing to care for it and it's in great condition! Perhaps Jeep should contract with Ford to do their leather interiors. I truly beleive that Jeep should provide an advisory label on their vehicles that informs the buyer that the adhesives Jeep uses in production have a "shelf life" and the buyer shouldn't consider getting anything over 36 months of good service before your vehicle starts to literally, fall apart. The best we can do is raise as much hell as possible and inform as many people as possible about this situation

 

I own a 1998 Ford Explorer with full leather interior and I have done nothing to care for it and it's in great condition! Perhaps Jeep should contract with Ford to do their leather interiors.

Explorer's didn't get a leather dash until the 2016 Platinum. What other like leather parts are you having issues with the 1998 model can help?

 

I Have a 2014 GC Overland with 60k and the leather dash is coming up in the exact spots pictured around the cluster. This jeep looks like it has 1 mile on it inside and out. I was blown away this summer when I noticed the dash coming unglued. it seems to be getting worse with the brutal cold out here in NJ hopefully it stops at some point.The quality of the GC is so poor. From the "Premium leather seats" which the lumbar pops back and forth... To this 2k leather dash that wasn't even glued properly. Note I have an early build GC March 2013 which is what I suspected was the cause.
I had a case with Chyrstler that went on for about 2 months. Brutal talking to someone every day and getting nowhere. The worst part is I moved and the dealership down here wouldn't even see the truck. They didn't want to get involved with something that wasn't purchased there. That really worried me. The next dealership pulled the same thing. Jeep actually called the dealer to ask why they weren't taking my jeep in. All we both got was "The manager won't be around until next week". Not sure why they couldn't make an appointment and why we needed the manager. Anyway, I decided to go in person, and the service manager stated this wasn't an issue and he couldn't tell Chrysler anything was wrong. Chrysler gave me the same response after 2 months of run around. Why let so many errors remain in these Jeeps when they are the most popular car on the road. Maybe that's the problem.

 

Same problem here with my wife's vehicle. Very disappointed so far when trying to get help from my dealership or FCA.
