Question - hopefully my 4xe will be shipping in the next week or so. I am planning to get PPF put on all piano black trim and screens immediately because I know it is prone to scratching. Should I ask them not to remove the protective wrap from these areas? I would hate for the car wash guy to scratch it without thinking/knowing.
That's a good idea and most dealerships would honor that request if you make it soon enough, in writing and continue to remind them of the request.

Anyone try this product?

Ordered this product - should have it by the weekend - will try and video the process...

The only negative I could see with keeping the original plastic on is that it could hide any imperfections that may exist in the original finish.

Yes, that's true. If one takes possession without the full, normal prep, there is additional risk of hidden "features"...

Yep, you are absolutely right. It's probably not worth the gamble and I'd rather see everything when I take possession. Any small surface scratches can be hidden/minimized by PPF anyway as I understand it.

Just my opinion, but this is probably worth the money to pay a shop experienced in doing this. Doubt it would cost much - one person said $75 to have the kit installed. If you've ever tried to put a film on a window you know how hard it is to get it placed right with no bubbles underneath.

I'm going to give it a shot - I'm retired and have a lot of time on my hands...

Take a look at their videos - I called several shops and none could confirm they had done a Jeep. I've done a lot of work on my F250 and Shelby - I'll do the Jeep in my air conditioned garage - and take my time - no rush. Did a complete audio system on the GT 350 - took a week because I took my time. Just did not want anyone messing with that car.
For the jeep I'll just go slow.

I ordered the backup set with my order - If I mess up I'll have someone install...

Are they really going to ship your rig? We had an Overland on order for months and then finally gave up. They could never confirm that the Macintosh was included. We ended up with the V6 Overland with every option.

It's a Summit Reserve so the McIntosh is definitely included. It seems like whatever the bottleneck was has gotten resolved. More people getting ship dates. My ship date is 9/8 so we'll see. They just sent out an internal notice claiming that JGC 4xe shipping to begin today or tomorrow.

You'll love the Macintosh. We passed on the Summit as we like the solid black color on the seats. As far as the Overland plug in we could never get a straight answer. We drive the Jeep about 7K to 8K a year mostly on trips so it was going to take a long time to make up the difference and the electricity in Northern CA even with solar at off hours is pricy.

Hobbie - have you already installed the film? If so, how did it go?

I had the dealership keep the factory protective film in place prior to having Cactus Tint in Scottsdale install the PPF film. I had them tint the windshield, both front doors and apply the film on the center console. All told $750.00 including the $100.00 for the center console. I wouldn't worry too much about scratches under the factory film, as it is probably applied prior to the assembly of the electronics in the console. Rick the owner of the tint shop said that even with the patterns it's a tough job, not to much water (electronics) and very small pieces to work with...

I have started. The center stack pieces look pretty good -
I could not get the 10.1 screen to fit.
The speedo screen came out great.
When you finish the product needs time to cure - the next morning the finished product looks pretty good.
I've sent pictures to Protech regarding the 10.1 fitment - we'll see what they say.
Also, this is time consuming. I did a section and then waited and allowed it to dry overnight.
To be honest I may end up removing the product and having someone do Xpel.
I will try to do some photos this week.
Wish I could see the Xpel product installed up close for comparison.
Also - I'm a rookie at this

Hi all - Expel has tons of kits now available for both interior and exterior. Here is the main screen. When using their search tool you have to differentiate between GC and L for various patterns. They have so many available - some interchangeable.

First one is the full center stack on 2 row - 10". Assuming it works on both L and 2-row.

Second is the L with 8.4.

Went over to the shop in town that does Xpel. They have done Escalades but have not done any Jeeps.

He took a look at what I've completed so far and said he would be glad to do the install of the Xpel but to be honest what I had completed with ProdTech looked great.
He also suggested that I mix in a little alcohol when doing the Nav screen and to work slow. Also said to wait till our temps dropped a bit. It's 114 today in Nor Cal.
I'm going to email Protech for some suggestions on doing the Nav screen.
Here are some photos - I still need to do the Nav and the panel just below the Nav. Everything else as well as the speedo is completed. I have not done the various buttons. Probably won't.

There are a few pieces of dust showing on the surface I should have wiped everything down before taking the photos. Also the bubbles under the product have started disappearing as everything cures per the instructions. I do like the speedo as it has a HD look - much crisper.

I went slow - doing a section, letting it dry and start the cure process so I spent a few hours over 3 days.

Is it perfect? No but good enough..... Not bad for self install and the $165 including Tax and shipping.

Nice job! Do you travel for installs? :)

Ha Ha - I did get a note back from ProTech - they are sending another set to practice with - they are saying others have gotten the NAV installed - I just need to work it and take my time. Once the heat wave breaks in Northern CA I'm going to give it a shot.

From ProTech - They are very helpful.

Robert,

I’m sorry you are having troubles. We will do everything we can to help you get a finished product you are happy with.

Our products fit. We have sold 1000s of the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the large screen. It’s been very popular for us. So what's happening is really just an install error which we can help with. Some people can get it first shot. Some take a couple tries. So let me send you out a couple more. The first one just use it to practice, give multiple attempts till you get the hang of it. Then install the final one. It takes patience and solution to roll the corners. Try wrapping the squeegee in the towel to push those pieces into place while it grabs excess moisture. That will help it adhere. Don't cut any pieces off.

Hobbie - now knowing what you know - if you were starting over, would you do it yourself or have someone else do it? Also, how much water / soap are you have to apply to the surface for the films to adhere? My concern with doing it (me or someone else) is the fact you have to apply water to them.

I think I would still do it myself. Why? Because the professionals have similar results around where I live. The difference - they do the job in 4 hours - I'm taking several days.

I'm pretty fussy about stuff so I'm taking my time. I just received some additional Nav screen protectors from Protech - so I'll probably give this another try over the next few days.

As far as the baby soap spray/mist - I tried to kept it pretty moist / wet and did not have any issues.

The one area I really worried about was the driver screen. I have the driver assist system and there are some cutouts on the sides where the status colors display. I just took my time and had no issues. To be honest the drivers screen looks great. The few bubbles I had have no disappeared.
Factory look is sort of matte, now with the Protech cover the screen has a high def look which I like. It makes the display pop and in my opinion easier to read.

I don't mind doing this as I'm retired and everyday is Saturday.....

Thanks Hobbie - I appreciate the reply. Does the Protech come with all of the application tools (spray bottle, squeegee, micro fiber cloth, etc.) or do you have to buy those separately?
