Hello guys. New the forum. My wife has a 2018 jeep grand cherokee Trail hawk. And her screen is changing songs and calling people on its own. And of course its out of warranty and she didn't get the extended warranty. Has anyone tried to work with a dealership and having it fixed or just pay out of pocket to have it replaced?? Thanks

Hi, I'm sorry to hear this. Please let me know if you plan on visiting a dealership for this concern. I would be happy to open a case for you.

SAME thing happened to me and my 2018..and the dealership will NOT help, because it's out of warranty after 35k. It's over $1000 to get it fixed. Im pretty freaking pissed off..I assumed since it's such a well known issue it would be considered a recall at this point. I adore my Jeep, but this makes me reconsider ever owning one again.

Sadly on doing research I have also seen mixed reviews on the replacement radios, I've seen some say they delaminate as well and others saying they've had no issues. I am extremely disheartened. I can live without my radio, but I read something can start leaking inside and possibly mess up the air conditioner system as well? I just don't understand how this isn't a recall being it's such a common issue, not if but WHEN it happens. I guess recalls are only in place for issues that are possibly life threatening?

From my experience in electronics, i can say this: the lcd screen is manufactured by LG. The defective one is the matt ( opaque ) looking screen. The culprit for delamination is the extreme heat generated by the screen itself and the consequent melting of the glue between the glass layer and the digitizer layer of the screen itself. The new replacement screen i found and purchased on eBay is still made by LG and has a shiny look instead of matt ( opaque ). This new screen doesn’t generate the extreme heat that the defective one did and should last forever.
If you are out of warranty, you can purchase the replacement screen and replace it yourself. You can find instructions for extracting the radio unit from the dashboard and also to replace the lcd screen

I bought my JGC 2018 in the USA. Shipped it to the Caribbean. I'm having the same delamination issue. The local dealer will not help. How can I claim a repair ?

Thank you for contacting Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The warranty for FCA vehicles sold in the U.S. is only valid in the U.S. or Canada.

FCA won’t provide warranty coverage for vehicles exported from the U.S. to other countries by anyone other than FCA, unless the vehicle is registered and normally used in the U.S. or Canada.

We can therefore unfortunately not assist with covering this defect under warranty.

While we understand that this outcome to your request is not what you were hoping for, please do not hesitate to contact us in the future, were you to have any further query.

Kind regards,

UPDATE: The dealership ordered a new radio Sept 30th under factory warranty. It is now Nov 26 and still NO new radio. They keep telling me it hasn't come in yet. Screen is getting worse!

My screen just started to delaminate yesterday. Out of warranty now. Can you provide a link or info on which screen to buy on ebay that you had success with?

I will try this if it is not too hard to do. Where can I find instructions on how to replace just the screen and not the whole UAQ unit? Thanks.

I guess the question is what to replace - just the screen "digitizer"?. These are very cheap at less than $50. Or do you replace the whole screen unit? These look to be $400 or more. Still much cheaper than replacing the whole radio at $800+.

You have to replace the entire screen since it is one part

Do you know if this is the LG part number for yours?

LA084X01-SL02

It is available on ebay. It is $450 vs replacing the entire radio unit for $850.
Mine was LA084X01-SL01 which was the previous model from LG and has been replaced with LA084X01-SL2.

This is the one I got on eBay:

And this is the video on youTube for the instructions to replace the defective screen from the radio:
