Has anyone else had this issue. Just noticed this on my 2018 GC. The display screen is starting to delaminate. See photo. It is not a crack, it looks like layers are separating (delaminating). Will they have to replace the whole unit or is the screen separate???

This is a common thing for these Uconnect systems. Try contacting Jeep about it. Unfortunately their supplier (mine is from Panasonic) if producing a product with this issue.

Photo of my problem. I filed with NHTSA this morning. FCA basically told me to pound sand. I requested the agent forward and have a Supervisor contact me. I will keep you posted.

FCA again declined to deal with my issue.

I went to my local dealer today. The service writer said I did not need a diagnosis, the screen is obviously delaminating. However, since I am the 2nd Owner and past the 3/36k warranty there will be no coverage. A replacement radio unit is about $850 + taxes and installation; total will be close to $1,000 in full. Writer suggested I contact selling dealer (non-Jeep) and complain. @JeepCares is there any recourse available?

See reply #11 in the thread below.

If you're getting a free replacement from the dealer don't worry about it.
That's not at all the point-- this is to prevent readers who landed here searching for this problem from getting incorrect information. It wasn't the dealer who gave me a "free" replacement, either, it was covered by FCA Corporate through the Jeep Cares program (not "free.")

Is someone from FCA (actually Stellantis now) handing you the free replacement radio or are you getting it through the dealer? If the latter, you are getting it from the dealer.

Also, here is a link to the source of the eBay DIY screen fix, if you want to chastise him about it.

I just spoke with Uconnect. Just as with FCA, they were no help. And actually very blunt stating there is "no financial assistance available" to help with the problem.

Anyone willing to file a lawsuit. I owe the titles on two of my grand Cherokees and a little left on a wrangler.

Jeep denied my claim.

I'm willing to start a class action lawsuit due to safety issues and distraction while driving

Started happening to mine early this year, all attempts with dealer were not replied to or got the run around. It's a CPO, second owner, and in reviewing above I'm hosed. 30k miles but the 3yr expired this past February '21. Been a Jeep owner since 2000, unbelievable how Jeep is handling this known issue. That said, going the DIY route, appreciate those posts. Anyway to tell which unit I have without taking it out? and is the instrument panel really held in by just clamps - following vids/ instructions I opened the USB bezel and pulled the piece above it pretty hard and can't get it to move. worried I'll break something. TIA

Mine started as well months ago. Unfortunately i got the UAQ as a replacement for my 2015 GC in order to have CarPlay.
So in order to avoid to purchase the entire radio, i found and purchased just the screen replacement from eBay.
First time i received a defective screen which was showing a starting delamination in the upper left corner.
Sent it back and ordered another one from a different supplier.
The first supplier confirmed to me that after my claim he checked his supply and found an entire batch of defective screens !
This is my screen:

And this is the screen I received:

Eventually the delamination will begin to affect the digitizer layer ( the touch sensitive layer ) and the radio will begin to act crazy as if you were touching randomly the screen which is my situation now...
Mine just started going crazy, changing radio stations and temperature all on its own...GPS going nuts too. Took it to the dealership and it's $1400.00 to replace it. Called Jeep advocate and they set up a case file. The person I spoke said our VIN number does fit the group with a known bad batch of screens. Why is this not a complete recall? Waiting now for the case worker to call me back if they ever do...

I am expecting the same thing...The person I spoke with just told me there is a known batch of defective screens and my VIN number was within the range of the issue. Why is this not a complete recall? I am not going to let this rest. $1400 for a known problem should not be my problem.

No other vehicles I've owned have had their head unit, which controls basically everything in the car fail. Never had a head unit peel or spaz out.

I'm not letting it go either

I had the same thing happen. Jeep won’t replace it because I’m above 36k miles. That’s so wrong. The car is less than 3 years old.

Any news yet?

Just wanted to add a data point to this discussion:

1. 2018 Jeep Renegade with 8.4 NAV screen
2. Past the 36 month warranty
3. Under 15k miles
4. Second owner

Before I did anything, I brought my Jeep to the dealer and asked what they could do: mentioned that it was delaminating. I did not mention any internet forums. Also happened to book a recall reprogram at the same time. Service guy did the recall reprogram and then diagnosised the issue as delaminating of screen and quoted me $1600 for replacement and told me to call Jeep warranty and that I had a good case: low mileage, just expired warranty.

Called Jeep warranty. They already had the dealer diagnosis on file and was assured by the phone agent that they would escalate the issue. Assured she would phone back and no guarantees. But overall, she was sympathetic.

Never heard back from her ... But got a call from UConnect agent saying they would be replacing it and would take care of me and reach out to the dealer on my behalf. They have the part on order. Uconnect agent would update me when part came in.

Will update post as it progresses.

Good luck, everyone!

Thank you for that information. Please keep us updated.

Add another one to the delamintion list.

2018 Altitude, 68k miles.

Delamination has progressed to where the touch screen is randomly activating time change request, changing radio stations & popping out of CarPlay.

From my experience in electronics, i can say this: the lcd screen is manufactured by LG. The defective one is the matt ( opaque ) looking screen. The culprit for delamination is the extreme heat generated by the screen itself and the consequent melting of the glue between the glass layer and the digitizer layer of the screen itself. The new replacement screen i found and purchased on eBay is still made by LG and has a shiny look instead of matt ( opaque ). This new screen doesn’t generate the extreme heat that the defective one did and should last forever.
If you are out of warranty, you can purchase the replacement screen and replace it yourself. You can find instructions for extracting the radio unit from the dashboard and also to replace the lcd screen
We’re can you find the instructions for extracting the radio?

I have 2018 Jeep Compass and it’s starting to delaminating on mine as well. Plan to take to dealer after Christmas. Hopefully my extended warranty covers it. Any suggestions?
