Mine is awful looking, hoping to get resolved soon with Max care warranty
MaxCare won't cover this.

If I ever have this issue I'll be DIY replacing my dash with a Limited dash. I'm very protective of it though. I always keep the sunshade closed, sunshade on the windshield, and front windows cracked in the summer time to reduced cabin temperatures.

X2 Max care does NOT cover Interior Trim items.

I had this problem on my 2011 Overland. MaxCare does not cover it. I contacted JeepCares and it was replaced for the cost of my MaxCare deductible plus they gave me a loaner car. It took about a week for all the work to be completed. There was no damage to my vehicle in the process of replacing the dash. I've had the new dash for about 2 years and it looks like new still. The texture of the new leather is slightly different than the original.

Who you talk to at FCA certainly seems to make a difference. It's a shame they aren't more consistent. Clearly Jeep has a policy to fix this issue but it seems not all of their support folks are aware of it.

Little update, my dahs who got redone by the shop came unglued 3 time, redid it 3 times... guy could not beleive why since all the one he did prior never had any peeling come back.....

So i bought an OEM dash at the dealer and told them i wont be paying 10hrs@125$ to install it and will be doing it myself.....guy looked at me like  .

Final results after around 6.5-8hrs total and thats with taking alot of time to do everything and not rushing. Now doing it again 5hrs top i could do it

Did you acquire the same leather dash as OE? Any apparent differences in quality?

You can try uploading the pics to imgur for free. They will have a section for auto tagging --

I watched a youtube video of pulling a WK2 dash, the windshield was not removed. I have never seen a vehicle that had to have the windshield removed to get the dash out, but it's possible they do exist.

I have had windshields replaced by windshield specialist and they can knock it out in less than an hour.

So if you're going to reupholster a dash, and there is not enough room to work in the area, you'd have to remove the entire dash, which is a 6 hour job, if not more. But pulling and re-installing the windshield would take less than an hour and provide the room to work on the dash. Considering the cost of labor, it would be much cheaper to have the windshield pulled to give the room to work on the dash without removing it.

I think people are getting that confused, thinking cause reupholstering shops are suggesting to remove the windshield to do the job, that it requires removing the windshield to pull the dash out and replace. I don't think it's true.

If they are replacing the dash completely and NOT reupholstering it, are you sure they actually pulled the windshield. I haven't pulled a dash on a WK2, I've done it on other vehicles, to include the previous generation XK/WK and pulling the windshield wasn't even close to being necessary. But it was a long complicated process that took lots of labor.

Your right, but I dont see where people have said in the thread that you need to remove the windshield to change the actual dash...?

You need to remove the dash when reupholstering , thats what the guy did when he did mine, their aint enough space with the windshield on to make the job of reupholstering

Now for changing the dash for another brand new one, no need to remove the dash , and 6hrs is a good time frame if youve done job like that before, but i dont see the point of rushing to get it done, forget that one connector burried deep because you want to go fast and after you realise something aint working.

Took me 7-7.5 hours doing mine , taking time and care not pinching any wire or forgetting some connectors, dealer book time is 10hrs or so wich is way to much IMO.

I think your right, no one did make the confusion, I went back and looked and couldn't find it, maybe I jumbled it in my head as I read through the thread.

I think you made a typo, if you're changing the dash for another brand new one, no need to remove the Windshield.... I think that is what you mean to say...

I was talking about having a professional do it, so you would expect 6 hrs, did a dealership quote you 10hrs?

I agree, if you're doing it yourself, take your time, stay organized, take pictures with your camera phone as you take it apart. I used zip lock bags to put all the fasteners in for each piece and taped the bag to the piece as I removed it. Had a cleared out spot to lay everything out in order, like exploded view. I got it all back together without a left over screw, nor a single missed connector (I did blow a fuse though, because I turned on the ignition before reconnecting everything). This was a 2010 XK though, not a WK2, but it's similar.

Purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with a Leather Dashboard in 2015, new. After a few years in a garage kept environment, the leather dashboard began to wrinkle. This seems to be a common problem as many people online have complained about this issue. Im afraid that the wrinkling could affect air bag deployment as this covers the airbag area. Jeep Chrysler and the dealership said that no warranty would apply to this as its wear and tear. This is a $50,000 Jeep with less than 40k miles. I expected much better.

Your airbag is blowing through that vinyl one way or another, if anything it will come through it easier now that the adhesive is loosened.

I am in contact right now with Jeep Cares for my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. Jeep Cares is pursuing what they can do for me with the dealer. I don't believe this issue has anything to do with the warranty. It is simply a workmanship issue on a car that is 4 years old and should not be happening in that time span. I just read where one person had over 100,000 miles on his car and Jeep Cares took care of him. Saw another person who purchased his Overland last Sept with 50,000 miles and is the third owner. Jeep Cares took care of him as well. Both WK2 owners had leather dash problems. I suggest you contact Jeep Cares.

Yes, they have solved many of the dash issues. Those are the ones I have been reading about. I would imagine they have helped with other problems as well. If you have a problem, then give them a call at 877-426-5337. They will probably tell you within a week if they are going to help out. They just seem to be inconsistent in who and how much they will help. These cases are treated on a case by case basis.

Have they solved any issues with the rear interior panels falling off and being warped? I had to put a screw into my d-pillar to keep it from falling off. Might have to do more.

I only looked at the topic of Leather Dash issues. But here is my feeling about it. If it is a quality control issue, then I would go to Jeep Cares and explain to them what is happening. My car was a $60,000 automobile new and there is no reason why the dash should be delaminating 4 years later on a Northern car. The dealer confirmed for me that this was poor workmanship. However, if someone lives down South and parks their car in the hot sun every day and does nothing to keep the leather moist, then it could be abuse leading to early wear and tear. If you have gotten no satisfaction from the dealer, then call Jeep Cares. You are more likely to get help from them if other people are complaining about the same issue. But what do you have to lose? They may help if your dealer confirms that what is happening is due to poor workmanship. But if they suspect that it is something you did to cause the problem (as they might suspect if you are the only one out there with this issue) then they are unlikely to help. Also, look through the forums and see if there are any other cases like yours.

I have to lower my expectations for Jeep products. Mine was $54k when it was new, and I guess I should expect about $20k worth of quality. The interior of my SRT-4 has held up better.

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. About two years ago I noticed the leather on the dash coming unglued and starting to ripple. I called Jeep and they said it was not covered. But I have read in these forums that several people have been successful at getting their dashboard replaced. Mine is in TERRIBLE condition and needs to be replaced. How can I get Jeep to pay attention and help me? I own two Jeep products and am really DISAPPOINTED at the lack of standing behind a known defective glue.
