I called the Jeep Cares number and was told that this is handled on a case by case basis and that it was not under warranty.....so much for JEEP CARING!!!!

The person on the phone offered NOTHING to resolve the issue.

My daughter was rear-ended last week in her Jeep Cherokee and we were going to replace it with another Grand Cherokee. But if Jeep won't fix this dash, then I guess I should be looking at buying a Toyota or a Subaru.....companies that will stand behind their vehicles.

I realize you're annoyed but neither Toyota nor Subaru (or any other manufacturer for that matter) would replace a trim piece on a vehicle that is seven years old and well out of warranty. They're called a "limited warranty" because they have limits on time and mileage as well as what is covered. If they didn't, the manufacturers wouldn't be able to sell new vehicles because owners would keep taking their old vehicle back for free repairs.

Sometimes a manufacturer will make an exception as a goodwill gesture but that is on a case by case basis and cannot be relied on. It usually happens when a vehicle is not far out of warranty or there are other special circumstances.

Toyota has a warranty enhancement on the fourth gen 4Runner for their cracked dashes. Not sure of the details but they are/were being replaced without question. And that was all of them, not just a certain subset of leather clad ones.

EDIT- Ended May 31, 2017 and covered the following vehicles:
2003-2005 Toyota 4Runner
2005-2010 Toyota Avalon
2007-2011 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid
2004-2010 Toyota Sienna
2004-2008 Toyota Solara
2007-2008 Lexus ES 350
2003 -2008 Lexus GX 470
2006- 2008 Lexus IS 250/350
2007 Lexus LS 460
2004-2006 Lexus RX 330
2007- 2009 Lexus RX 350
2005- 2008 Lexus RX 400h

Not unreasonable for Jeep to take care of us.

Hi DebW,
I am sorry to hear about your experience. Please send our team a private message with your VIN and current mileage and we would be happy to see if there is anything we can do on our end!

Yes and there are other similar programs for specific problems by most manufacturers including Ford, GM, and even FCA (e.g. warranty on 2011-2013 V6 left side cylinder head was extended to 10 years or 150,000 miles). Those extended warranties are offered as part of, or in place of, a recall for a large scale problem.

No such warranty extension has been offered by Jeep on the wrinkling dashboard so it isn't covered except possibly as a good will adjustment. Those sort of adjustments are handled on a case by case basis and there is no obligation on the part of the manufacturer to provide them. If the problem ends up rising to the level of a warranty extension then prior repairs would likely be reimbursable if they were made by a dealer.

Yeah its pretty much bs. The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland I purchased used at around 32K miles. First thing to go was the wood veneer. Next the dash is lifting.. Between the wood and the dash I bet it will cost 4K at least to have the jeep dealer fix. I am going to try to fix it myself by injecting glue in there. for the wood, I am thinking or replacing it with carbon fiber. The wood price is a bit ridiculous.
Thinking about trading this lemon in, but not much out there I like, and then I will be trading the crap I own for the crap someone wanted to get rid of. No good solutions.

In defense of Jeep Cares and FCA on this issue, I just had the dash in my 2014 Overland with 56,000 miles on it replaced at no charge. I worked with Jeep Cares on this forum and opened a case with FCA. They had me take the vehicle to my dealer to estimate the replacement cost. After doing so, FCA sent the dealer a code to do the replacement.

2014 JGC Overland EcoDiesel w/86k - Leather Dash getting worse now.

I am totally surprised that Jeep hasn't offered some kind of repair option or recall for this issue. It is a common issue across many model years and trims. Every time I talk to someone at FCA about the issue they blame my location, they say because it is sunny here in Nevada that this is what caused it. Well, my GC is garaged at home and at work so that argument doesn't really hold any water.

After all of the issues, I have had with this vehicle now to include the Diesel AEM recall and more problems related to that I am ready to move on from FCA to a car company that actually cares about their customers.

... and is reminding me that this was one of the half dozen or so things that led me to choose a loaded Limited over an Overland.

Another person with a '14 summit with a delaminating leather dash. Emailed FCA as well as DM'd in this forum and I'll see what they say. Disappointing for sure. Had a '15 Overland with the same dash before this Summit and it didn't have an issue up to 65k.

'14 overland 72k mi, w/ Maxcare (which I know doesn't cover trim). Wrinkle starting near the defroster and small bubble forming along stitching on passenger side. Admittedly nothing major, but I have seen enough pictures to worry me about the future. Took it to dealer and had them photograph and send to Jeep. They declined to cover it. Hoping that TSB will eventually provide a remedy!

Mine was declined as well, likely due to just purchasing it 2 months ago.

Just got my estimate for dash repair on my 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland. $1,118.75 for the Dash Panel and $1,875 for Labor. A grand total of $2,993.75 (minus tax of course). Had a take-home car at my old job so it stayed in the garage except on the weekend. 51xxx miles and immaculate condition except for dash. PM’d JeepCares so hopefully good news soon. I’ll keep y’all posted. TSB would be awesome!

Scott, any news on the dashboard fix? My 2018 overland with less than 15k miles came unglued this week. Crazy!
Nothing yet..but a 15k mile 2018 is covered under the 3-36k bumper to bumper warranty
