Hi everyone. Just wanted to come on here and tell you the fix to the OEM MOPAR Crossbars for Jeep Compass Trailhawks and other models. I have a near bran new fully optioned 2018 Jeep Compass Trailhawk imported from Canada. Love it too!

The OEM kit actually comes with a grommet that the instructions specifically tell you to put on LAST (after positioning the track gaps change depending on your setup/length of bar overhang). Now, I put that part off because it got dark outside and yes had loud whistles above 30MPH with the positioning perfect, that wasnt the cause. The cause was needing to cut the grommet to fit into the underside of the bars that hang out and the bars underside inside between the two feet closest to the feet. Installed into all 8 positions, and NO MORE whistle at any speed. Had the perfect amount of grommet plus a couple inches. So yes gorilla glue black tape will work… but why do that when the OEM kit provides everything you need?

Attached is the image from the instruction manual! Clearly states a whistle will be created if you do not install the grommets.

Good luck!

After using painters tape on every place I could think of and driving around the block several thousand times to test, I have found was appears to work. Zero noise up to 50, then slight (but normal) roof rack noise thereafter. At 75 the tape came off but was quiet up to that point. No more whistle or sound at 25 mph and above!

All I did was tape the gaps on the rubber seal across both bars. Instant change. Obviously not a permanent solution, but at least I can work from here and find a way to seal that top, doesn't look bad, and will last. I read on another blog that someone used vinyl to cover silver racks, wondering if 'wrapping' would be the best method. First I am going to remove the rubber seals once more and really stretch/bend them. Reinsert and see if that just solves it. The racks have also not sat in the direct sun for long to loosen up the rubber.

Just want to say thanks for posting all of your efforts! This girl very much appreciates it! I have the Jeep brand cross bars installed on my 2022 compass trail hawk and they are loud AF ... was thinking maybe a wind deflector/fairing might work but I don't want to spend the money unless I know it'll work.

It also helps to to slide the cross bars back as far as possible to reduce wind noise.
With a carrier, or what ever it is that you have attached to the cross bars, slide them back as far as possible, but doesn't make contact with the rear hatch, when the rear hatch is in the full open position.
