I am getting random "service shifter" fault message displayed. No apparent fault or change when driving. Has anybody else experienced this
i literally just had this happen to me this morning 1/26/20.
i used auto start to start my 2014 jeep then got in once i was about ready to go it flash "service shifter" i freaked and turned the engine off and back on and it didn't come back on... so idk is that something of a recall to check for? im curious too because i have no more warranty :/
Hi Freedom1320,Started to have the same problem here a month after the warranty ran out on my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk took it in today they hooked it up got the reading U1465-00 or P1C86-1D stored also a TSB 08-054-18 REV A display in witech then told me that I needed a shifter bezzel and harness $628 plus taxes.. I replied no thanks I can replace it myself and left...This seems to be a big problem on most years and there should be a recall for this problem,Just Saying.Has anyone else done there own.
If Jeep Cares Kathryn, have them do something about the issue and stop charging people for a known problem!. Wow, I can't believe you posted...Hi Freedom1320,
If you are unable to remedy this on your own and decide to move forward with your dealer, please send our team a PM. We would be happy to add assistance to your service visit.

I know that they dont care in Canada for sure I had a hard enough time getting them to call me back.. There's a good video on you tube showing you how to take out your center console altogether which sure we dont have to do to get to the bezel and wiring harness hopefully this weekend I'll take it apart just to make sure everything is connected properly...If Jeep Cares Kathryn, have them do something about the issue and stop charging people for a known problem!. Anyway, the wife is experiencing this problem with her 2018 Jeep Cherokee that has just surpassed the warranty. She drove the car off the lot with 10 miles on it, and we have had a couple issues with the car from the gas door cover falling off and now this. Customer service at the dealership is horrible, they pretty much don't care about you after you bought the car so I almost have her convince on a beemer for the next purchase. I have had two in the last 10 years, and I love em!
If anyone knows the parts I need to fix the issue, please let me know where I can get them so I can fix the problem without taking it to the incompetent Jeep dealership.
Thanks,
Andrew
I'm getting the "service shifter" notification nonstop the past 2 days. It even dings every 10 seconds. It's still shifting fine. I have the '14 Summit 5.7L as well. I really don't want to have take this to the dealership for something stupid. I saw a YouTube video of a mechanic who had a '17 model and had to replace the panel that covers the shifter because of the little black electronic box adhered to the underside. He said they wear out so had to replace it and the wiring harness.I got that message repeatedly on one leg of my last long trip when I was towing a trailer. That was the only time I've ever had the message. After stopping for gas and restarting the jeep I never got the message again on the trip or since. Everything seemed to work properly despite the message. The EVIC didn't show any stored messages.
Hi, My grand Cherokee just did this to me today after replacing my brake pads and rotors. the light on the shifter started to cycle crazy. and not it has a check engine light on. Were you ever able to resolve this issue with your jeep?"Service shifter" warning light started coming on on the driver display this summer, accompanied with a warning chime. At first intermittently, now it is on pretty much full time after moving into gear. I am unable to use 4WD, see electronic speedometer, gas consumption gauges or other information on vehicle due to the error message. Took to Wyler Eastgate Jeep on 7/16, they informed me the bezel on the shifter needed replacement, and the part would be in the following week. I had them keep the car for the following week. The following week they notified me it was possible the part wouldn't be available until the end of the July, but that the vehicle was still under warranty so it wouldn't cost me anything. I have since followed up in August and again last week as the dealer never called back on the status. The latest call was on 9/29 (almost 3 months since first appointment), and the parts department contact told me that of the two parts needed for the repair, one was placed on "increased backorder status" from Jeep, meaning that the dealerships were "blocked" from ordering it or it even being sent out to the dealership. They are now unaware of when the part might become available again.
From this experience and the comments, it sounds as though the part is faulty, hence it won't be used on a repair. Sounds like there should be a recall issued if the part is faulty and the number of complaints is so widespread, and Jeep hasn't addressed it to consumers or dealers. My 2017 Cherokee has 28,000 miles. Contact: Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment to file yours so we can get this thing recalled.
I placed a complaint with Mopar due tot he part being unavailable by my dealer. Mopar immediately got the part and sent to my dealer, and contacted me to tell me they had it. Also contacted me post-work to see if I was satisfied. I was able to get the part but my dealer was not, not sure why. Repair has held and all good for now.Hi, My grand Cherokee just did this to me today after replacing my brake pads and rotors. the light on the shifter started to cycle crazy. and not it has a check engine light on. Ok cool that is good news, I stop by my service center today. And the soonest appointment they could give me was December 21th smh. Do you recall the part number that you called them for?I placed a complaint with Mopar due tot he part being unavailable by my dealer. My brake pads were just replaced then the message popped up for me too- showed up 3 times in one day then nothing for a week. No check engine lights were on and the shifter was a normal color though- seems to drive normal as well. Mechanic was stumped, wasn't sure what it was. He checked everything and told me nothing popped up on his scanner. I drove it for one week after picking it up and the message popped up once briefly when I put a cup into the cupholder. I wonder if there is a sensor that got messed up for us when they replaced the brake pads?Hi, My grand Cherokee just did this to me today after replacing my brake pads and rotors. the light on the shifter started to cycle crazy. and not it has a check engine light on. Others have noted strange electrical issues when their magnetic wheel speed sensors get covered in metal filings. Have to take the wheels off to access these and clean them. Not sure if symptoms are the same but the fact that you just had brake work done near these sensors is worth looking.I was getting the message occasionally a couple years ago. About a year ago I towed a trailer on vacation and started getting the message a lot while towing. After that trip I have never gotten the message again. I'm guessing there are many ways the computer can "Read sensors" and conclude the shifter needs help and that some of those ways are programming errors, not real problems. My shifter always worked even when the message was up.
Hi Fly170,I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited with 66,000 miles. Today went to back out of the drive and several warning lights went on. While driving the Service Shifter warning came on and the Traction Control light has stayed on. Also the low oil pressure warning and the vehicle went into limp mode. I pulled over and shut it off, then restarted it. It ran ok then with the Traction Control light on. The Low Oil Pressure warning set the SES light. During this the 4WD selector switch also doesn't work. I see where there was a recall back in 2013 for the ABS module and lose Alternator ground. I don't think that recall was every received. I will run codes tomorrow, I think it is possessed!
