I am getting random "service shifter" fault message displayed. No apparent fault or change when driving. Has anybody else experienced this
Update. The Grand Cherokee is at the dealer. They reported that the transfer case module is DOA and the shifter module is intermittent. After those parts are installed they will drive it to see if other codes are set,I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited with 66,000 miles. Today went to back out of the drive and several warning lights went on. While driving the Service Shifter warning came on and the Traction Control light has stayed on. Also the low oil pressure warning and the vehicle went into limp mode. I pulled over and shut it off, then restarted it. It ran ok then with the Traction Control light on. The Low Oil Pressure warning set the SES light. During this the 4WD selector switch also doesn't work. I see where there was a recall back in 2013 for the ABS module and lose Alternator ground. I don't think that recall was every received. I will run codes tomorrow, I think it is possessed!
After $1500 it seems to have fixed it.Update. The Grand Cherokee is at the dealer. They reported that the transfer case module is DOA and the shifter module is intermittent. After those parts are installed they will drive it to see if other codes are set,
"Service shifter" warning light started coming on on the driver display this summer, accompanied with a warning chime. At first intermittently, now it is on pretty much full time after moving into gear. I am unable to use 4WD, see electronic speedometer, gas consumption gauges or other information on vehicle due to the error message. Took to Wyler Eastgate Jeep on 7/16, they informed me the bezel on the shifter needed replacement, and the part would be in the following week. I had them keep the car for the following week. The following week they notified me it was possible the part wouldn't be available until the end of the July, but that the vehicle was still under warranty so it wouldn't cost me anything. I have since followed up in August and again last week as the dealer never called back on the status. The latest call was on 9/29 (almost 3 months since first appointment), and the parts department contact told me that of the two parts needed for the repair, one was placed on "increased backorder status" from Jeep, meaning that the dealerships were "blocked" from ordering it or it even being sent out to the dealership. They are now unaware of when the part might become available again.
From this experience and the comments, it sounds as though the part is faulty, hence it won't be used on a repair. Sounds like there should be a recall issued if the part is faulty and the number of complaints is so widespread, and Jeep hasn't addressed it to consumers or dealers. My 2017 Cherokee has 28,000 miles. Contact: Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment to file yours so we can get this thing recalled.
Just bought a previously owned Jeep Cherokee sport 2017 and recently been having this issue, twice while parked service shifter message and all the lights on the shifter lighted up, just happened again while driving stopped, turn the engine off and restart it went off...I've read reports on faulty whiring and shift casing connector, any recommendations since I dont have any near dealershipthis just happened to me on 1/31/2020 I called van nuys dealership in California and they are cluelessss
This is what I just sent to JEEP Customer Care about an Identical Problem: Also call Customer Care: No response from them yet. What was the outcome of your "Service Shifter" problem. Did they fix at their cost or yours?Just came across this because I got this message about service shifter on my 2017 cherokee and I am also out of warranty, albeit just slightly. I took it to a local dealer and had them check it. I mentioned the TSB and they came back after a few minutes and said that the TSB did not apply. They said mine was in the shifter and the shifter had to be replaced. They wanted almost $800 for that. I said no to that. So my question is, has anyone out there found what the issue is and why the shifter can't be repaired? I am afraid that if nothing changed then paying $800 for a replacement and could get the same problem. Seems like Jeep has had shifter issues for several years now and I think that's long enough to have things worked out. They should replace the shifters on these that they say need to be replaced, regardless of warranty. Seems to me they shipped vehicle with known bad parts or defective somehow.
I had the exact same thing happen today with mine and of course the warranty is done. So I will check it out later and see what happens. I have looked this up for recalls as well and seems to be mixed conversations on whether there's a recall or not.Just came across this because I got this message about service shifter on my 2017 cherokee and I am also out of warranty, albeit just slightly. Cool thanks for chiming in. I was not able to find anything when I searched as well. Hopefully, you will have better luck than I did. I removed and reinstalled the shifter just to see if there was anything wrong with the connections. But so far that error has not popped back up. Fingers cross it doesn't come back!I had the exact same thing happen today with mine and of course the warranty is done. So I will check it out later and see what happens.
