I know this isn’t related but can anyone tell me how to get a post approved so it can be viewed? I posted asking thoughts on if my Jeep is totaled or not!

I selected Over-the-Air update 5 times with 5 failures. Sprint phone service here is poor - so that may be a problem. Since the attempted updates, my clock would not sync with the GPS and Remote Start would not work. On this website, I found a post by Jeep that listed a website to download my update. It worked great. Went from 17.43.01 to 18.45.01 on my early 2014 GC (took delivery in March 2013). Haven't seen any problems or improvements.

The real purpose of the update, which installed much faster than previous ones, was to resolve a GPS problem that began at the beginning of November due to the rollover of the week counter on the GPS system (the national one, not the UConnect system). The UConnect system had to be reset to match the new numbering order or it became inaccurate, as you found out.

Thanks for that info.

You're quite welcome. I've noticed that a lot of people seem to be confusing the two updates. You cannot install the map update until the UConnect update has been installed and that update really needs to be installed to make the GPS work even if you don't want to buy the map update. But, it's not just a UConnect problem; it affects all GPS units unless they had some kind of software built in to handle the rollover. With many of the systems though, the rollover update is hidden in the map updates. Garmin does that as does Tom Tom from what I can tell. The problem with our units is that UConnect handles part of the radio/GPS management and HERE provides the maps, so we need to deal with both entitities.

hello, I had the same problem. Radio will be replaced. How dod you get reimbursed by the company? Im paying out of pocket hoping they will fully reimburse As their update bricked my radio that worked previously to the update. Just wondering how they took care of you

Call Uconnect. They offered to replace my radio. 2014 Overland out of warranty. They even set the appointment at my Colorado dealership.
BUT..... I am on a drive from Texas to Colorado tomorrow and wanted to try something in the meantime.
I was doing the latest update manually. It failed and went into the LOOP from Hell..... asking to insert the USB over and over. I took the thumb drive I had extracted the 5 files from the downloaded ZIP update.... ONLY TWO files WERE on the thumb drive. After I went back and ensured all 5 files had extracted correctly to the thumb drive, I put the thumb drive back in the radio and it COMPLETED fine. There are 15 intrnal "UNITS" it updates from the download.... so it takes about 30 minutes, but you can easily see the progress.
Good luck all....
Mike

Similar issue, uconnect had to be replaced unfortunately. No issues and no phone requires service nonsense anymore. You can PM me and I can assist with the steps I took.
Hey there, I am having the same issues as you, can you let me know what steps you took? I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, I am really stuck here, its just looping and I am afraid they are going to try to make me pay for a new radio which I cant afford. I have no radio, no phone, no gps, nothing just an endless loop and I am getting up at night to start my car so that it wont drain my battery. Uconnect was no help either.

Have you tried disconnecting the radio fuse to reset the radio?

I have not. I was doing the update using the a USB drive, nothing I do works, its just running on the loop of "wait 2 - 5 minutes" and then it tells me to reinsert the USB again.... and then it starts all over again.

I understand your frustration. I found it pretty damn furstrating as well.

Here's what I experienced:

I tried to update with a USB. It failed at Section 11 with the bolo error.

The system would tell me to remove the USB then wait for a couple minutes and it would ask for the USB again. This is the loop we all experience.

I saw this thread and read that some of the other folks suggested that we keep trying to upgrade.

As was suggested, while I was out driving around I'd let the update run. So I'd put in the USB when the system asked for it then when it got to the error message I'd take out the USB and then start all over again. Then the next day I'd do the same thing.

On about the 4th day or so of doing this, I went through the update process while out driving around about 4 times before it suddenly took. I looked down and it was on Section 12 and then it completely and I had my screen back.

So that's what I mean.

When you get to Section 11 and it fails, my experience was it'll say remove the USB. When I did that I saw an hour glass with a message saying wait 2 - 5 minutes while the system resets. Then it asks for the USB again and you repeat the process.
I am having the same problem

With my 2015 Grand Cherokee I tried to do a manual update via usb (from 17.11.07 to 18.45.01).
<Background info: the 'over the air' update always kept failing, so came across the uconnect website where you can enter your vin and see what available updates are there).

I parked it outside my townhome and let it run while it updated; failed at Unit #11 out of 14 ('Embedded Air Card'). It kept hanging at 1%, and screen displayed error "Sierra Wireless: bolo file install failed. Please remove USB stick to reset". Ended up with the screen looping to reinsert USB, and to wait 2-5mins. I had to unplug the negative cable on my battery over night so my screen wouldn't loop.

Next morning, plugged the battery back in - and started the install again (using a different USB, reformatted). Drove the car around in an open area with limited trees (assuming it failed due to the embedded air card, I figured drive it around where there's good signal, I was desperate at this point guys) and what do you know - surpassed unit 11 and was able to finish the update.

Getting ready to cancel my appt with the dealer. Long story short, if you're thinking about updating from usb, don't try it. But if it's too late and you're stuck in that endless loop - just keep trying. Drive it around (don't pay attn to the screen while driving though), stay positive, and it'll go through. You're doing a lot more than what the dealerships will do, esp if you want to avoid that ridiculous $180 diagnostic fee, and telling them that it'll cost $$$ to replace the unit after. Do it yourself, and just stay consistent. Try it out. Good luck (sadly gotta rely on forums since it'll take another 30 years for Uconnect/Jeep to resolve these).
I am having the exact same issue, I have now tried 2 different USB drives. Tonight when I get home I am going to try it again using a different brand of USB, I had used 2 of the same type (Staples 16g). I hope it works.

Try disconnecting the power to the radio to see if it resets. That was FCA's recommendation when this problem first arose. If that doesn't work, then you have a more serious problem and the update probably corrupted the software in the unit.

Another thing that

Another thing I recall, maybe in a different thread, is that one person having this problem checked the USB and found that some of the files originally placed on it were missing. He put those files back on the USB and inserted it as directed and it installed correctly after that.

This is a KNOWN issues by FCA UConnect. Seems that some are having some troubles that some are not and vice versa. You should NOT try to fix this problem alone, only take actions that you are told to do so by UConnect, by doing so if something should go wrong they are responsible. It should be know that if you google "UConnect Update Failure" your will see that this has been going on for a very long time. There are SEVERAL class action suits pending action. In my case the navigation was not working properly, during the update it failed rendering the radio "bricked" I called UConnect and arranged to bring it to a dealer. If you call UConnect request a case number and ask them to escalate it up for repair, do not pay for anything! When you get to the dealer make sure you give them your case number, tell them to contact UConnect for a replacement radio. With a wide selection of vehicles, functions range, it is important to note that if your system fails that some safety systems and electronic controls could fail resulting in crash and / or injury. Best of luck, this truly has been a shit show. Thanks FCA UConnect for nothing..

Does anyone know of a why to have these guys pay for this? This happened to me and now I have my jeep at the dealership with a rental. I'm looking at at least $200 for this. Pisses me off. My car was running just fine until I ran this update.

I had this issue on my UConnect system on my Ram and started my internet search for a solution. I could not get the system out of the loop asking me to insert my usb update stick after it did the pre update iso validation. It stayed in this loop. I tried several things when unzipping the downloaded files, put them in the root directory and left them in the sub-folder etc... I was doing a quick fat32 format on the usb stick. I unclicked that and did a full format of the usb stick, put the files in the root directory and it worked fine. Appreciate the ideas provided and thought I would give back with what worked for me.

I also tried the USB update on my 2014 GC, and after freezing on 3 attempts when on the 2nd unit, it then went into the "insert USB, Wait..." loop from hell. I reformatted thumb drive and reloaded the update online, but the unit wouldn't even respond to my inserting it in the Jeep anymore. Just kept looping. Would not soft or hard reset. Wouldn't shut off. Had to pull neg battery cable to shut it off overnight so wouldn't drain battery. I feared I was going to have to go to dealer and maybe get new unit, but decided to try a new thumb drive as a last ditch effort. Bought a Sandisk Ultra 3.0 and downloaded files to it. Inserted in Jeep when it said to insert USB, and to my shocking amazement it started downloading. Went through all 15 units (unit 2 is really slow) and rebooted fine. However, GPS still not working. I read that some people say it takes a bit for that to reset, but at this point I don't even care, just glad to have my main functions back! So for me, it seemed the thumb drive made the difference.
