110 mph. Real disappointed because it has a whole lot left. Stupid electronic governor. Performance chip needs to come out asap!!!

I'm guessing you also think street racing kills vans full of babies.

Clear roads, with no one on them I've gotten my car up to 155. Don't see a problem going that fast if your car can take it and there's no one on the roads.

I've seen the OPs jeep in action and I must say being limited at 110mph and having 8 cylinders, Jeep might as well put a 4banger in it. No wonder Chrysler is so far behind GM and Ford.

I wouldn't tinker with the speed of a non high performance truck/SUV. Higher center of gravity, the ability to stop or even slow down at higher speed should all be noted before doing something like that. Plus like others stated, you need the tires OEM tires are rated at 118 I believe.....

110 on public roads in a SUV - CRAZY! But, in my youth 125 in my 1995 Mustang GT in the desert near Palm Springs. Of course, it was 3AM, full moon, and empty freeway. I have taken my WK2 up to 90 on I75 in northern Michigan. But, that is as high as I will go.

i went 95 on i75 the other day...i was late for class..but i swear to you, it drove better at 95 then it did at 85 :D

I never go past 70 in my truck. people are stupid and don't realize that i can kill them faster than they can blink while there cutting me off.

If you know someone from a Jeep dealer, you might be able to unlock the 110 mph limited from your Jeep.

I was thinking that but wasn't going to say it. Unless you're doing 110 on the track, you're putting people's lives at risk.
Not necessary true. If you travel during the night, as I do sometimes, the only ones on the road are 18 wheelers and if you know what you doing, going over 100 is a lot of fun, you even find others on the road doing the same thing which makes even better. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend driving fast if you do not know your vehicle 100%, and of corse, during day time, when commuters are on the road.... M2C

Did I mention I have a 3.7 LOL

The speed limit here between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is 160kph (100mph). The distance is about 60 miles and I do that twice every day, so a higher limit would be nice

location has nothing to do with it... just the vehicle itself. I used to own a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and it saw 100mph practically daily.. as did my turbocharged 2004 Mustang GT.. but those were performance oriented vehicles with sport-tuned suspension, a low center of gravity, very strong braking systems and quite obviously a lot less weight. my WK and my WJ have never once exceeded 80 mph because I know that's far from what those vehicles are made to do.

sure the new vehicles have more safety features to protect the driver, but that doesn't mean a damn thing to an unsuspecting motorist that pulls into your lane not realizing how fast you're going. the brakes won't be nearly as effective on a vehicle of such weight, and if you were to swerve, well that would probably be the end of your truck and maybe even you.

Food for thought...We all know that speed limits have remained largely unchanged since the 80's right? Now consider a vehicle doing 70 mph in the 80's versus a modern vehicle at 110. Even considering the physics, in which one would you rather be?

Got my 06 GC SRT up to 140 once.

But after that, I vowed never again to push those types of speeds in any vehicle. Just too dangerous.

110 in an SUV not designed to go those speeds, is plenty fast IMO.

#22 ·
Not designed to go that fast? Why the hell do you put a 5.7 370hp engine in a car and say it shouldn't be pushed over 100? Just by looking at the 5.7 it's pretty damn low for an SUV..... As long as you got tires rated for the speeds I don't see a problem.

I95 in broward county 100+ is definitely a common thing in the left lanes. Driving skills and knowledge helps, but yes most people do not know their cars and the roads to handle triple digit speeds.

Plus all new gc tires are rated up to 112mph with a 2psi increase. The manufacture would not limit the jeep to 110mph if it wasn't safe for the vehicle and tires to do so. It is the driver that needs training or skills to drive at higher speeds.

This thread is a cop's dream.. careful what stories you post. With that said, I'm glad I have "H" rated tires.. :D

The fuel economy at those speeds is ridiculously awful. Just at 100mph you're probably near 10mpg in a car with these aerodynamics. I'd imagine you guys are the type that complain about your mileage while zooming around town with a foot either stomped on the accelerator or brake.

If you want to do the speeds for fun, get a car that is truly fun, not an SUV.

I hit triple digits regularly with my SRT...
At the 1/4 mile track that is.... :D
Truth is it feels very stable at around 110 mph, I wouldn't mind running it at a 1 mile track and see what it can do there.

One thing I recommend to anyone thinking of exceeding triple digits in any vehicle is to be aware of the rated speed of the tires, inspect them and make sure the tire pressure is at the recommended psi. Like another member mentioned earlier, weather is a big factor, specially the wind.

Remember even at a 1/4 mile track there are risk we should all be aware of, sometimes is doesn't even have to be your vehicle sometimes it could be the guy next to you loosing traction or whatever and it can come to your lane, so always be aware of where your opponent is.

WOW! Isn’t it amazing how passionate people get about defending their need for speed?
My original question was basically how I find it interesting that nobody ever complained about older SUV's (like the thumbnails I posted) doing 60-70 mph. But everyone is up in arms about modern SUV's when doing 100-110 mph. IMHO it is a lot safer doing 100 mph in a decent modern SUV compared to a 25 year old SUV doing the legal limit.
I am also not talking about racing, but about highways RATED at 100+ mph when conditions allow. Believe me when I say that it is much worse on our roads in Dubai to be the odd one out at 60mph when everyone else is doing 100.

I know the JGC is no Cayenne, but be careful when you generalise
All I am saying is…Boy! How times have changed

Man how did I ever live running 130MPH+ with National XT Renegade polyester tires on a 1970 Mustang in the early 80s before there were "speed rated" tires?

Good.. :p
